In the overcrowded car of the morning "subway" I involuntarily witnessed such a scene. Two familiar women collided nose to nose. They groaned: “Well, how are you?” - "Oh, sheer stress!"
Since the eminent Canadian physiologist G. Selye launched this word into orbit, it has firmly entered our lexicon along with “satellites”, a microcalculator, and “aerobics”. Stress inexorably reminds of itself with a huge number of heart attacks and neuroses, various dystonias. Even a stomach ulcer is considered a social disease.
People began to run in the mornings, in their free time to plunge into the pools, trample on the cindery surfaces of tennis courts. “Meet the troubles of life with a vigorous jog” - apart from this simple motto and tranquilizers (alas, not harmless to health), medicine cannot offer anything to relieve stress.
But if someone appeared and said: “A few workouts, absolutely not burdensome, on the contrary, even pleasant, and I will teach you to control your body, I have a certain golden key.” Would we follow him?
Went.
He would teach a student to come cheerfully to exams during exhausting sessions, a watch factory worker would be saved from the prospect of getting professional myopia, an official from hypodynamia suffering from insomnia would be taught to fall asleep sweetly at a time convenient for him. He would cure our urban migraines, we would go to the dentist with a smile in all the remaining teeth, because we learned not to feel pain.
The mysterious gravitates towards the miraculous. Miraculous - to mysticism. It's hard to believe that someone

may be the key to yourself.
However, there is such a person. Dr. Khasay Magomedovich Aliev.
... A miracle happened before my eyes. People trained according to Aliyev’s methodology (workers of one of the factories in Yerevan, where the director E. A. Petrosyan created everything for doctors the necessary conditions for work) right there, in an ordinary room, they induced sleep and controlled its duration. It was even possible not to check with a stopwatch: the biological clock of the human body works with no less accuracy than mechanical or electronic ones. People took off their fatigue, headaches, cheered up. At my request, by sheer force of will, they anesthetized any part of the body, even with a needle if they feel nothing.
The trick is interesting until the magician reveals its secret. “Ah, it turns out that everything is so simple,” the viewer will disappointedly draw out. So for now, without revealing the secret of how this is even possible, let's digress, reader, for a while.
“Fullness to despise the body, completeness to joke with it! It will crush your whole cheerful mind with a callus and, to the laughter of your proud spirit, prove its dependence on a narrow boot ”- these words belong to A. I. Herzen and, apparently, will never lose their relevance. Oddly enough, having virtually unlimited control over our emotions, behavior, and thinking, we cannot cope with an ordinary headache. However, there is a small group of people on the globe who obey their own body as easily as the button on the switch of our TV. The Indian yogi, who has mastered special exercises, for a long time accustoms himself to do with a minimum of clothing, not to experience difficulties from the cold, avoiding fire and enclosed spaces. I will not touch on the religious side of the matter, but one way or another, the yogi (student) acquires the ability to wear only one shirt on his naked body even in severe frost.
The student must be tested. Sitting on the river bank on a cold winter night, wrapping himself in a wet blanket, he must dry it with his body. As soon as the cover becomes dry, it is replaced with a new one, also wet. This continues until dawn. It is considered normal for a yogi if the student dried three bedspreads with his body during the night.
It's hard to believe, but I saw with my own eyes how one of Dr. Aliyev's patients made the mercury column of the thermometer rise to the mark of forty-one degrees. And he did it in a few minutes. Let me remind you that it takes decades for yogis to learn, and their life is shrouded in a fog of mysticism, bound by chains of all kinds of prohibitions. And Dr. Aliyev's patient is an ordinary city guy of twenty-five years old, a computer programmer.
“So, everyone can master the key technique?” I ask Khasay Magomedovich.
- Each. If, of course, he wants to. There is an original theory that in general we are arranged in such a way that in the process of evolution more and more functions of the body must be subject to conscious control by the human psyche. So, self-regulation in this sense helps to accelerate the evolutionary development of man. The only way to cope with the ever-increasing informational, emotional, stressful loads is to learn how to properly use the internal reserves of the human body.
What do we have for this? Unfortunately, very, very few. Today, no one is surprised by a psychologist at an enterprise. And no one should be lured into the office of psychological unloading. After the noise and roar of modern production, you come to a quiet room. Pictures on the walls, carpets on the floor, fish in the aquarium, soft light, quiet music. You sit down in a comfortable chair, close your eyes, and the doctor, whose commands you obey, teaches you how to relax your body and rest in a short time, gain vigor, forget about fatigue. This is the so-called autogenic training. The skills acquired with its help can be used independently - at work and at home. But auto-training is not easy to master:

it takes several months of training with a trainer-doctor; it is not possible to apply it in every situation.
Khasay Magomedovich Aliev went much further. The psychotherapist explains to the patient that after one or two fifteen-minute sessions, he will be able to learn to control the level of his suggestibility. The trainee is asked to stand up straight, tilt his head back slightly, look straight ahead, slightly above eye level at ONE POINT, without tension, as if into a void.
Then the tried-and-tested methods of suggestion are used, and the brain plunges into a surprisingly pleasant state of half-wakefulness - half-sleep. I want to note right away - nothing to do with ordinary hypnosis. It is in this special state that the doctor’s phrase will forever remain in my memory: “Whenever and in any situation, in a sitting, standing or lying position, with noise and without noise, if you mentally count from one to five, you will automatically enter the self-regulation mode” This is the key to yourself. A person becomes able to carry out a controlled connection between his mental and physical functions. That is, such systems of the body become subject to our desire, which in the normal state we cannot control. The key is like a switch, a button, by pressing which you can activate an already developed reflex chain. It is enough, looking at one point, to count up to five, as the desired state is automatically achieved - you can relax or concentrate.

You can imagine how difficult it is to fall asleep on the eve of the operation, even if it is a normal appendicitis. Aliyev's patients slept like babies. Moreover, they almost did not feel pain. As the Minister of Health of Armenia summarizes in an official note, “a decrease in the consumption of analgesics and sedatives by about 60 percent was noted.”

We criticized the Ministry of Health of the USSR a lot and rightly for inertia, unwillingness to see and introduce the new. But finally, there is a reason to say kind words. Deputy Minister of Health of the USSR A. Moskvichev promptly considered the results of Kh. Aliyev's developments, approved the necessary methodological recommendations for implementation in healthcare practice. By decision of the Council of Ministers of the Dagestan ASSR (Khasay Magomedovich was born in Makhachkala, graduated from the Dagestan Medical Institute), a self-regulation center has recently been created in the republic and has already received patients.
Thus, a work of great universal importance began to be carried out. It is difficult even to enumerate all the benefits that it brings to a society tormented by civilization. Everyone should have the key - an academician, a hero, a navigator, a carpenter ... Apparently, in a few years, if, of course, the method of X. Aliyev gets the appropriate distribution, it will be mastered by tens of thousands of people. It does not require any material costs. It would seem, what is simpler: count to five, and before you do this, formulate the necessary program, set the time for its implementation. And as soon as you mentally say "five", the mechanism will work
But what is the price of these amazing transformations that a person can make in himself? I ask Aliyev. — There is, after all, the law of conservation of energy. Gaining in one, you lose in another. Can't a person just like that easily get a magic wand and fulfill all his desires? And if these desires are immoral?.. Agree, every medal has two sides.
- There is a price for everything. But in this case, a person does not need to pay anything for acquiring a key. It is impossible to use it to the detriment of yourself and others. As soon as the mind begins to disagree with the command given, the braking system turns on, the key turns in the lock.
- What does a person feel in a self-programmed, so to speak, state? Does he see the reality of the world or, on the contrary, renounce everything earthly?
- If desired, the key allows you to both maintain a sense of reality and delve into yourself. For example, quickly, firmly and at a clearly set time to fall asleep.
- Do you have the key yourself?
- Not yet. And not at all because the shoemaker is always without boots. The key is given only through the evoked special state of the organism. A person himself, by understanding the mechanism, is unlikely to be able to cause this state. I probably also need a coach for the first time.
During a television program in which Kh. M. Aliev demonstrated his method to a group of Moscow students, representatives of various research institutes were invited to the studio: biologists and physicists, sociologists and educators, cybernetics and doctors. Everyone was interested in the scientific and technical details of the method. And the questions were different:
Is your method not self-deception? Doesn't it resemble a baby's pacifier, a surrogate for a mother's breast?.. But one question was formulated jointly: "Are you invading the holy of holies - an autonomously given process of the human body's activity?"
“I don’t see such a problem,” Aliev replied. Nobody has been able to deceive himself yet. The key just won't work. In addition, it has been absolutely proven by science that neither hypnosis, nor auto-training, nor controlled self-regulation pose any danger to health. The situation is more complicated with programs. I am preparing software packages that will help people learn to get rid of bad habits (for example, smoking), I am working on the creation of a set of physical exercises for key training programs for various professional activities. A key without a program is nothing.
An interesting detail. X. M. Aliev wanted to register the new method as an invention. However, the State Committee for Inventions and Discoveries said: “You do not have any material object in your invention. So, it is impossible to register it.

Impossible. Well, okay. That's not the point. I think that the contribution to science often consists not in the discovery of a new phenomenon or fact (a huge number of them have already been accumulated), but in a new way of understanding, interpreting and applying what is already known. Guided self-regulation, if we humans use it skillfully, promises to become Golconda, where it will be possible to scoop and scoop hitherto impossible things. This book is about the method of controlled self-regulation. Why is it called that, is it not a tautology - controlled self-regulation?
The fact is that there is the concept of “self-regulation”, which in most cases refers to the natural automatic self-regulation of the body. This is the so-called homeostasis. Homeostatic bioautomatic devices have been developed throughout the evolutionary development of man and serve him to maintain the stability of the internal environment of the body, that is, for its normal functioning in various
changing conditions. For example, the wind appeared, the tone of the blood vessels of the brain changes accordingly in a person, the pressure is automatically regulated
blood. Homeostasis, or the body's life-support machine, has been developed over millions of years. It works independently of a person's consciousness: whether he is sleeping or awake. His protective and adaptive reactions in a healthy body are invisible to consciousness and do not distract the psyche from solving higher problems (this is one of the reasons for the reluctance, for example, to engage in preventive physical education, regardless of the belief in its usefulness).
Controlled self-regulation is a method of conscious-volitional control of the internal processes of one's own psyche and the body as a whole.
I am often asked: having learned self-regulation, will we impoverish ourselves emotionally? After all, each human experience is individual, it is an intimate process. In order to acquire a culture of feelings, a person must experience not only happiness, but also spiritual dramas, upheavals, painful doubts. All the dramaturgy of feelings that a person experiences leads to spiritual, spiritual culture. And a person is selfish (if we recall what Chernyshevsky wrote about “reasonable egoism”), having learned to extinguish feelings that bring suffering, he will immediately try to get rid of them. And thus it will come into conflict with its own nature as a spiritual being. And they even give literary examples: in Bulgakov's famous novel, Margarita asks God to save her from the memory of the Master, from love for him, and what a terrible punishment she bears for this - she becomes a witch.
Won't we become like the Homunculus created by Goethe's bizarre imagination, that strange creature - half-child - half-old man, who is tired of experience and wisdom, without starting to live; who knows everything, sees all the secrets of the world, but is protected from life by the thin glass of a laboratory Wagner retort? And as soon as reality invades his soul in the form of love, when on Walpurgis Night he sees the goddess of health and beauty, beautiful, just emerging from the sea, flies at her feet, the retort breaks, and the first minute of his life becomes the minute of death.
Didn't Goethe's genius foresee that mental, spiritual impoverishment, to which the so-called "rational egoism" leads us?

I can answer these just fears with only one conviction - self-regulation is based solely on the development of individual personality traits, on its capabilities given by nature.
This book is educational in nature. Today, when a person has lost the natural ecological niche in which he has existed for centuries, he must be aware of the dangers that lie in wait for him, must also have an idea of ​​his psychophysiological capabilities. Even at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, V. I. Vernadsky, studying anthropogenic impacts on the environment, formulated the ideas of the unity of all evolutionary processes occurring on Earth - geochemical and physical, the development of living matter and human society. He created the doctrine of the noosphere
- sphere of activity of the mind. And this implies the development of new thinking in the conditions of new, unusual forms of life, if a person hopes to survive in them, I would even say that a person must develop a new behavioral code.
Man is not a developed psychophysical organism, he is in development. If traced evolutionary development a person that continues uninterruptedly, one characteristic pattern can be seen: more and more functions of the body are subject to conscious-volitional control, more and more opportunities human consciousness not only as a creative organizer of his external activities, but also as a regulator of his internal processes, are expanding.
In ancient times, at the dawn of its development, a person could not arbitrarily, at will, and clench his fingers into a fist. For this, a tiger was needed, an attacker on it. And the fingers clenched automatically in the order of a protective reflex reaction.
Then, the “bioautomaton”, guided by instincts and reflexes, imitation of authorities, was replaced by a conscious person - Homo sapiens, who was able to first clench his fist already without a tiger, but with the help of the image of a tiger (as, for example, today the pupil cannot be expanded or narrowed by force will without attracting the image of a bright light or darkness), and then, in the process of development, and without the image of a stimulus - only a strong-willed desire.
This entire process of transition from the stage of the bioautomaton to Homo sapiens, which took place not without the participation of labor activity, finally led to a shortening of the links between the goal and the inclusion of the executive organs.
Why didn’t a person stay at the stage of a bioautomaton and continue to develop in a conscious direction?
There are many theories about this. We are interested in this issue with the idea that the principle of automatic functioning of a person cannot fully ensure his survival in an unpredictable changing environment. The ancient adaptation mechanism works on the basis of already existing experience, and situations often arise in front of a person when intensive expansion of this experience, forecasting of actions, and taking into account possible results are required. The need to predict actions depending on the goal and situation stimulates the development of the corresponding organs and systems of the human body and thus stimulates the development of consciousness.
It was at this level of development that a person had a need to use internal processes to achieve their goals. So, for example, by training your memory, you can more successfully master foreign languages, and by subordinating the thermoregulation of the body to conscious control, you can do without aspirin during colds or learn to work in the heat with less fatigue.
Unfortunately, to date, many functions of the body have so far remained involuntary-automatic. A person cannot, without special training, regulate blood pressure at will, control the tone of blood vessels, and anesthetize the desired part of the body. This should include all that complex, inaccessible so far to conscious-volitional control, a complex of internal mechanisms,

commonly referred to as human reserve capacity.
Based on the fact that the evolutionary development of a person is directed from the bioautomatic production of adaptation to the principle of conscious-volitional self-government, we can say that the methods of teaching a person self-regulation to a certain extent serve to optimize his evolutionary improvement.
This is a sacred matter, it should be dealt with urgently. And that's why.
Speaking of our time, we habitually say: in our stormy age, in our impetuous age. And there is truth in these verbal stereotypes. Let us turn to the authoritative opinion of the scientist: “In the “good old time,” writes Academician N. N. Moiseev, “fathers and children lived, as a rule, in very similar conditions:
they hardly changed during the life of a whole generation. Now everything has changed, and two neighboring generations in developed countries live in very different conditions. Hence, they have very different perceptions of the surrounding reality. And the main reason is the rapid development of science and technology, the growth of the power of civilization. The pace of scientific and technological progress does not show a downward trend. Life does not seek to return to the mainstream of a calm, moderate development ... And society must constantly adapt to new opportunities ... "
Under these conditions, there is an urgent need to improve the functional capabilities of a person, to increase his protective and adaptive qualities. Today, when, on the one hand, a person is a conscious being, and, on the other hand, his natural bioautomaton is still not sufficiently “agile” in relation to the new conditions of life, an intensive process of self-consciousness of a person begins, trying to consciously control his internal, hitherto automatic reactions. And may self-regulation help him in this matter, which, in essence, should become an integral part of the general culture of man in the future. The more parameters are consciously controlled, the more degrees of freedom.
What will he be like, the future man - homo futurum? Being engaged in self-regulation, you should think about it seriously - our future depends on it. For in our really fast-paced age, the bioautomatic machine began to falter. There are signs of a weakening of adaptation, which is expressed in the growth of neuroses, stressful, psychosomatic diseases, heart attacks... management, to help him with conscious-volitional self-regulation.
Therefore, in contrast to the concept of "self-regulation", the name of the method appeared - controlled self-regulation.
Under this name, the new method was approved by the USSR Ministry of Health and recommended for practical use in order to reduce stress and fatigue in a working person, increase his efficiency and optimize training and learning processes, as well as for psychoprophylaxis and treatment of psychosomatic diseases, borderline neuropsychiatric disorders.
In the future, we will call it for convenience the method of self-regulation (without the word "managed").
This method also has one more working name - the key. So he was called in various publications, starting in 1981, after the invention of the method; the term "key" was mentioned by us in a number of scientific articles in such journals as "Electronic industry" (article "Some issues of industrial psychophysiology"), "Psychological journal", "Human physiology" (articles "Method of optimizing human performance", "Effects of thermal influences").
The term "key" at the first stages of the implementation of the method was even convenient. For example, when work was carried out in the famous clinic of eye microsurgery by S. N. Fedorov, patients being prepared for a conveyor operation were asked: “Do you have a key?”

If there was a key, the preoperative sedation was cancelled. Patients themselves produced anesthesia, removed their fear of surgery.
Later, when using the new method they tried to reduce fatigue among workers of monotonous work at electronics enterprises or taught how to comfort the well-being of border guard soldiers after a sleepless night watch, the word “key” began to be used less and less and was replaced by a more natural and familiar expression “learn self-regulation ”, or “to own self-regulation”.
In 1983, along with an article on self-regulation, the Electronic Industry magazine published a rather daring photograph for that time: a worker, proudly throwing her head back, sleeps behind a microscope at her workplace. A rather unusual sight; after one or two minutes (according to her own program), she will automatically wake up and, well rested, fresh, will start working again. Like Stirlitz in famous movie. Only here, at the enterprise, such unique ability had several hundred people.
Such articles about psychophysiology, and they began to appear on the pages of such journals more and more often, are a characteristic sign of our time. Problems of psychology and human physiology began to be studied in various fields of human activity, which had nothing to do with these issues before.
For example, in one of the large production associations in Armenia, where, with the assistance of director E. A. Petrosyan, a psychological relief room was created, shop workers had to visit it to restore their strength. There is music, and panoramic slides with views of nature, and the sound of running water. For a person who, by the nature of his occupation, has nothing to do with production, all this may seem like child's play, and a microassembly operator who works with a microscope all day knows the price enjoy your holiday eyes. But hundreds of people of a large intensive modern production cannot simultaneously and constantly use this room. Therefore, on its basis, a Self-Regulation Training Center was created, where groups of workers came not only for recreation. Here they received the skill of self-unloading, which they could produce at a convenient time for themselves at their workplaces. The state of self-regulation is much more useful as a psychotherapeutic tool in comparison with the usual passive rest. As a result
its use reduced fatigue among employees, headaches disappeared, and in the evenings, at home, they could already freely watch TV or read without the usual tension and “sand in the eyes”.
The use of self-regulation is similar to a psychotherapeutic session with a doctor. Only here you do not need to go to the clinic, everyone becomes a psychotherapist for himself, having learned to restore the strength of the body with his own will.
Self-regulation is universal in nature and can be used as a useful tool in any area of ​​human life and activity. But it is especially indispensable where increased demands are placed on the human body. It is no coincidence that the method of self-regulation is keenly interested not only in patients who want to recover faster, but also in healthy people associated with intense mental or physical labor.
Thus, self-regulation training has become traditional for the meetings of the All-Union Club of Directors of Industrial Enterprises under the leadership of Academician A. G. Aganbegyan, and the chairman of the well-known Riga agricultural company Adazi, Hero of Socialist Labor and corresponding member of the All-Union Agricultural Academy A. E. Kauls, specially came to me in Makhachkala to study useful skills; he also suggested using self-regulation techniques in the system of training in managerial activity.

Who is this book written for? The question is far from idle. First of all, because medical methods are usually described in special editions. But the main thing is that only a psychotherapist who has passed special training. Therefore, this work cannot be a tutorial on self-regulation.
And yet the book is before you, reader. And the meaning of its publication, in my opinion, goes beyond the applied purpose. I will explain. Many of us experience psychological discomfort in some situations. This may be due to a lack of education, that is, a lack of sociable manners, and a lack of inner looseness, and mental characteristics. Everyone can remember from his life more than one humiliating situation when he didn’t know what to say, how to act, or didn’t show restraint, broke loose, did stupid things ... For emotionally impressionable people, such generally insignificant events sometimes turn into drama, or even into tragedy. The reason for this is the lack of psychological culture, which is our general shortcoming today. And we feel the need for it. It's no secret that some people take private (at a hefty fee) sessions with psychologists in order to learn a sense of self-sufficiency, gain self-confidence, not spend too much mental
energy to experience trifles. We are all witnesses of how various "samizdat" treatises on yoga, Chinese gymnastics, manuals, underground medical clinics with constant success roam from hand to hand, promising the most zealous followers the attainment of nirvana, enviable longevity and even immortality. "New converts" gather in societies where they collectively master the techniques
meditation, relaxation, etc., with the fervor of medieval warlocks, they seek the meaning of life, sometimes reaching the point of absurdity, because all this often takes the “seekers” far away from life itself.
On the other hand, there is a lot of legalized and widely available literature on autogenic training, which is practiced by thousands of people. From these sources, you can get information about other types and methods of self-regulation, with their help, master useful health-improving exercises.
Why is our method of self-regulation so different from others and why are there such high demands on it when it is popularized?
The fact is that this new method is based on the partial use of elements of hypnotechnics. It is the use of hypnosis in teaching self-regulation that requires medical supervision, but at the same time provides an unusually high, in comparison with other methods, learning speed, which exceeds, for example, mastering auto-training ten times.
In the process of many discussions with doctors, philosophers, educators, sociologists and psychologists, who are familiar not only with practice, but also with the scientific, theoretical, methodological side of the issue of self-regulation, we came to a common opinion: enlightenment is necessary for this issue. The lack of relevant information, in particular, knowledge about the reserve capabilities of a person, often creates false ideas about self-regulation in general, hindering the effective development of the necessary skills in the learning process. So, even among fairly educated people, there are adherents of occult and mystical teachings who require a specialist doctor to immediately reveal their phenomenal capabilities to them: teach them telepathy, levitation (flying) or, at worst, suggest how, with the help of self-regulation, one can learn walk barefoot on broken glass and not cut yourself, which is usually demonstrated in films about yogis. WHAT SELF-REGULATION CAN GIVE YOU PERSONALLY

THERE IS SUCH A SPECIAL - NEUTRAL - STATE

The universe opens in harmony of mind and soul - not just a phrase.
In order to control your internal bioautomaton, that is, to enter it into the “manual” control mode, you should reach that neutral state in the mechanisms of the brain, using which it is possible to switch the activity of the internal systems of the body at your conscious discretion.
There is such a special state in which it is easy and free to breathe. Everything inside is liberated. It's hard to put into words. Everyone can feel it differently. It is surprisingly pleasant, in this state the organism is harmonized, the balance of soul and body is established.
The head in this state is, as it were, “empty”, there is an abyss in it, not filled with anything; I have no thoughts, I don't want to pay attention to anything. The whole body rests, accumulates strength. The symptoms of this condition sometimes appear on their own. For example, when a person is very tired and sits as if numb, staring thoughtlessly at one point. This brain includes a protective-restorative reaction, switches from the expenditure of forces to their accumulation.
Or, for example, when a runner opens up a “second wind”: it becomes easier to breathe, an unusual lightness appears in the body, running has become pleasant, it seems that now you can run endlessly. It was under the influence of a critical load that a special recovery state automatically turned on reflexively, a less expensive mechanism began to work - a mode of economical use of energy.
Sometimes this state of harmonization turns on in a dream, especially in children, and then they “fly”. They say that when children fly in their sleep, it means they are growing.
This is a state of inner comfort when natural free breathing opens up. Often it also occurs during special yoga exercises or, for example, during Buteyko “holding” the breath. Its essence lies in the fact that harmonious breathing in a person is carried out in a very economical structure, it is closer to superficial.
A person who has mastered such breathing becomes healthier. But unfortunately not

everyone manages to learn it.
When the author of this book demonstrated the exercises, including the state of self-regulation, K. P. Buteyko, he, having tested them on himself, exclaimed: “My breathing has become the way I need it! Your method can be applied to those who find it difficult to learn.
It does not matter for what reasons and with the help of what methods this special psycho-physiological state arises, but, having arisen, it restores exhausted or impaired neuropsychic or physiological functions, heals and rejuvenates the body.
This amazing, life-giving state has many definitions: meditation, the Great Nothing, nirvana, the state of zen, mystical state, self-hypnosis, autogenic immersion... Despite the difference in the methods of achieving this state (which we call the state of self-regulation), its nature is the same. Only the ways to achieve it are different.
In our method of self-regulation, the achievement of this state occurs unusually quickly in comparison with other known methods, and its application is universal, since it is not limited to the framework of existing systems.
Here is an example. If in autogenic training self-regulation is carried out under conditions of neuromuscular relaxation - in a fixed, comfortable position, then self-regulation according to the new method can be carried out even standing on one leg and, moreover, with the inclusion of movements. Being in a special state, a person can learn a new dance, learn to type on an imaginary typewriter, develop skills in driving a car or an airplane, jump with an imaginary parachute, simulate a state of weightlessness before flying into space, and perform complex physical exercises. At the same time, all the corresponding movements are turned on in him, the work of the brain, heart, all internal organs and systems changes accordingly, and there is an accelerated development of mastered skills.
Surprising sensations sometimes arise in a state of self-regulation. Not only natural breathing opens up, there is an extraordinary feeling of bliss, spiritual euphoria, you want to sing, fly. As if a stone had fallen off my shoulders. Soul feast. After that - the head is clean, clear, former fatigue or worries vanished as if by hand. There is a desire to work, write poetry, energy boils.
In this state, the brain (which, as biochemists have established, is also a gland) produces hormones vital for the normal functioning of the body and the so-called endomorphins - internal drugs. They create the basis for positive emotions, therapeutically affect the impaired functioning of organs, participate in the internal mechanisms of adaptation and pain relief.
Man, by his nature, needs to experience from time to time a state of spiritual liberation, self-renewal of the ocean of his inner life,
free expression. If he is psychologically constrained, not free, he gravitates towards artificial ways of emancipation: the soul requires cigarettes, wine, drugs. In addition, tightness leads not only to neurosis, but also significantly increases a person's sensitivity to external mental influences:
someone else's authority, stereotype, command, that is, it returns him to the stage of a bioautomaton.
An artificial drug suppresses the production of similar organic substances in the body. Because of this, a pathological vicious circle is formed: abstinence syndrome (hangover), terrible pains of “withdrawal” in drug addicts are the result of suppression of the production of internal analgesics.
One drug addict, having learned self-regulation, began to use this state to induce mental euphoria in himself without using the drug. Soon he was able to get rid of drug addiction. The same experiment was then carried out with alcoholics, who, on the advice of a doctor, instead of taking alcohol, reproduced from memory with the help of

self-regulation, the state of intoxication, or rather, evoked feelings of spiritual comfort, self-confidence, inner looseness, good mood, which they experienced in a state of intoxication. Thus, they stimulated the production of endomorphins, which allowed them to get rid of harmful passion. This experience served as the basis for the creation of an original method of treating alcoholism based on self-regulation.
This feeling of inner liberation is well expressed People's Artist USSR Lyudmila Kasatkina. At an evening meeting at the WTO organized in February 1988, having volunteered on stage and experienced a state of self-regulation, she exclaimed:
“I have been striving for this liberation from film to film for so many years. Finally, here it is!
- And what kind of freedom is this? Mikhail Ulyanov asked her then.
“You see, Mishenka, you’re all looking at me now, and I’m standing with outstretched arms, like a bird, in such a free position, and I don’t care a damn!
At the end of the evening, the young actress Alena Akhlupin, who had already studied with me earlier, took the stage. I decided to convince the audience of the usefulness of the method, to demonstrate my capabilities.

Alena instantly entered a state, her head slightly leaned back, her hands swam. His face beamed with pleasure. And the dance began! Amazing lightness and beauty. Everyone froze.
At some point, Alena stopped and, apparently embarrassed by her impulse, suddenly went out of her state. She caught her breath and said that she had not experienced “such a surge of feelings” for a very long time.
“Interestingly, is it possible to perform such experiments after sixty?” joked Mikhail Ulyanov.
Already going down with him in the elevator, I offered my services to the respected actor.
"No, no, I'll think about it," he said. "It's all too sudden!" And it would be nice to teach self-regulation to both actors and directors.
It's important for an actor to get into character. The whole system of Stanislavsky teaches this. With the necessary skill, this system will probably work more efficiently. What about creative longevity?
It is very difficult to describe the state of self-regulation in words. It must be felt. Just as it is difficult to ask a yogi for a description of nirvana. He can give you recommendations on how to enter this state: focus as much as you can on the emptiness that surrounds you; let yourself be swallowed by this emptiness, enter it with your consciousness;
let this emptiness absorb, cover your entire brain... (this is from the practice of shakti - immersion in Nothingness). And this is how yoga describes samadhi: it is a state of ecstasy in which connection with outside world violated; it is a succession of mental states that become progressively simpler until they end in unconsciousness.
But does this tell you anything about the bliss of liberation, if you have never experienced this state? In general, it is extremely difficult to describe any sensation in professional language. This is available only to outstanding artists of the word. And in our case, this is only possible taking into account the fact that many people experienced similar sensations involuntarily or with the help of special training. Who has not experienced, you can not explain.
But you need to enlighten. For the lack of information in this area is dangerous. Is it because the famous film actor Nigmatulin (the idol of karateists) died at the hands of his false teachers because he did not know about the possibility of obtaining a state of spiritual enlightenment in a more accessible and simple way for himself. And, as is known from the sensational trial at the time, he was killed by his "teachers" for disobedience. He was beaten to death and he

karateist, did not even resist. Because, striving to achieve spiritual harmony, he blindly believed his “teachers”, who forced him to beg, fast, undergo all kinds of tests on his spirit, body and conscience - all this, in their opinion, was to break his selfishness and pride, hindering the achievement of self-perfection and inner harmony. And he, who had already begun to experience signs of this state, of course, began to automatically identify it with the "procedures" of its production. His friends did not understand him, they advised him to leave these obscurantists. But he survived this state, and
they are not. It is like an atheist, who has never experienced a feeling of prayerful grace, convinces the believer that there is no God, not realizing that when turning to God, the believer opens the divine state of harmonization.
And in our time, a person is in dire need of gaining self-confidence, his strength, which, one might say, has lost. There are many reasons for this: the long-term unification of the way of life, and the vicious ideology of the “cog-man”, and the persistent fear of repression, and the cries of the command system, and an almost deadly flurry of information.
Every day we hear about the threat of nuclear war, hopeless environmental forecasts, the inexorable march of AIDS across the planet... All this is imperceptibly deposited in our subconscious, in memory cells and carries out its destructive work. A person, losing confidence in the future, becomes confused, fussy, nervous, loses his natural ability to mobilize his strength at the right time, to realize his skills.
Here, for example, is one typical case. A woman who was recently filmed on television in a group of students completing a self-regulation course, after a car accident, ended up in the trauma department of the hospital. Doctors managed to warn that the patient is able to do without painkillers. (She has a comminuted fracture of her right clavicle and two ribs). She, all in plaster and bandages, with a pained expression on her face, did not agree to induce a state of self-regulation in herself and remove the pain: “I can’t, I won’t be able to. Give injections! Finally she agreed, but on the condition that the doctor who taught her self-regulation should stand nearby. And I stood! She instantly plunged into the desired state, after a while the pain went away, she was completely transformed, opened her eyes, immediately grabbed a mirror and began to preen. Woman! That's how they got used to having a boss, a leader nearby. Learned to believe in yourself. And this faith must be strengthened. You need to learn to manage yourself. This is what self-regulation is for.

And if religion brought up in a person faith in God, in the fact that without God's will not a single hair will fall from the head, the science of self-regulation is designed to open a person's faith in their own capabilities (which, of course, in no way competes with the religious worldview) .
What is the essence of the special state? In the union of soul and body. This is a connection between the spiritual and the material; the union of the psyche and physiology in Sanskrit is called “yoga”, that is, the union.
The inner union is the fulcrum. Having mastered it, you can, without waiting for critical loads or overwork, turn on recovery processes. In this state, the body is subject to the will. I wanted my hands to become light, they are light,
soar; wanted to open the breath - breathe easily and freely; wished in the heat to be cool - the heat recedes; I decided that I needed to calm down - I found peace.
When Baron Munchausen said that he pulled himself out of the swamp by his own hair, he probably meant self-regulation .. After all, as you know, the baron always spoke only the truth.

CONTROLLED "PHASE SHIFT"

So, in a special state, all brain systems are sort of unlocked (like in a gearbox - forgive my colleagues for such a comparison) and are ready for new switches, depending on the command - the volitional attitude. In this special neutral state, a person experiences a pleasant inner emptiness, detachment from the world and himself, mental and physical balance.
In a neutral state, everything around is perceived equally: there is no main and non-main. I don't want to react to anything. I want to be in it and relax. Rest as much as your body needs.
Let us recall the yogic "dispassionateness". Time seemed to have stopped. There is no time at all. Equilibrium. Breathing is natural, open, free, easy and even.
This is a pleasant balance - a state when the soul and body rest. And at the same time, the body in this state is highly ready to fulfill any desire, is acutely sensitive to every volitional effort:
wished, for example, to experience walking on a bicycle or swimming in a river - arms and legs suddenly turn on, the rhythm of breathing and the work of the heart change accordingly, there are sensations of wind beating in the face, or water around, even birds can sing on trees that have appeared out of nowhere .
What kind of a special neutral state is this, holding which, like a speed knob, you can switch the internal processes of the body by an effort of will? And is it even possible?
Maybe! Such a special state of consciousness (or rather, the psyche, or more precisely, the psychophysiological state) has long been known under the name "hypnosis."
However, in our book we are talking about self-regulation, that is, about how a person can master this state to realize their own desires and goals, and not the commands of a hypnotist.
The well-known author of autogenic training, I. Schultz, also dreamed of creating a system with which a person could control his internal state without any help from a hypnotist. Schultz interviewed people who had experienced hypnosis, and identified three main, in his opinion, sensations: a feeling of general relaxation, a feeling of warmth, and a feeling of heaviness in the body. But the great idea of ​​universal self-regulation degenerated and became, in essence, a method of controlling muscle tone, since Schultz, teaching people to induce a state of self-regulation, recommended that they independently produce these three characteristic sensations. And these sensations served as neuromuscular relaxation, which requires a comfortable posture and relaxed muscles.
In addition, the path to achieving self-regulation through autogenic training is too long, therefore tiring and difficult for individuals who do not have a certain perseverance. Autogenic training, limited to relaxation, does not allow, for example, to do what is easily done in a state of ordinary hypnosis: sing, dance, learn to skydive, learn to drive a car ...
Why did this happen? Firstly, the path to self-hypnosis is extremely difficult for most people, and an attempt to simplify it requires abandoning the stereotypical ideas about hypnosis that are rooted in the minds of researchers, as well as the traditional opposition of hypnosis and autogenic state, hypnosis and yoga, for example.
In the literature on yoga, one can come across the opinion that hypnosis is harmful, since a person in this state is able to lose inner integrity and independence. The same opposing point of view is shared by many authors on autogenic

training, citing as evidence experimental data (up to photographs of the internal processes of the body), supposedly confirming that the autogenic state has a different nature than hypnosis.
In fact, as you know, experimental interpretations of facts in such a complex issue as human integrity depend on the initial point of view and concept of the author of the study. We are convinced that the nature of the mechanisms of hypnosis and self-regulation is the same, and confirmed our point of view experimentally and practically by the fact that thousands of people are being trained in a new method of self-regulation using hypnotic suggestions. The only difference is that after such training, a hypnotist is no longer needed, the person himself controls and manages his hypnotic processes. The discovery of the common nature of these allegedly opposite brain mechanisms allowed us to abandon the relaxation orientation
state of self-regulation and use its possibilities in all the universal fullness inherent in ordinary hypnosis. And here the experience in hypnology directly points to the prospects and possibilities of self-regulation. Yes, a person with the help of self-regulation can do with himself everything that could be done with the help of a hypnotist, but he does it himself.
However, back to neutral. The signs of this special state are known to us not only in connection with hypnosis, but sometimes arise in our ordinary life. Let's remember once again how we sit in moments of fatigue, as if numb and staring at an invisible point. In the depths of our brain, an intimate process of balancing mental processes takes place, the “pumping” of energy from more stressful areas to less stressful ones, we seem to be fascinated:
the brain rests and restores its strength. At the moment of fatigue, this reaction of the brain turns on without our volitional effort - defensively - reflexively, automatically.
With the help of self-regulation, you can learn how to consciously turn on this protective and restorative reaction, and then we are able, without waiting for overwork, to prevent fatigue in time, protect our nervous system from exhaustion, and skillfully maintain our health and performance.
Signs of a special neutral state appear in us whenever brain activity switches from one mode of operation to another. For example,
just before falling asleep or in the morning at the moment of awakening, the so-called intermediate state occurs, when you are no longer sleeping and at the same time not yet awake. This intermediate state between sleep and wakefulness is most favorable for self-hypnosis. If we turn to the thousand-year experience of religious consciousness (religious meditation), we can see that it was used for a prayer ritual. Here is how L. N. Tolstoy describes the attitude of a believer to morning prayer in “Boyhood”: “I did not have time to pray at the inn; but since I have already noticed more than once that on the day on which I, for some reason
circumstances, I forget to perform this rite, some kind of misfortune happens to me, I try to correct my mistake: I take off my cap, turn to the corner of the britzka, read prayers and baptize under my jacket so that no one sees it. But thousands of different objects divert my attention, and I repeat the same words of prayer several times in a row in distraction.
From our highly specialized point of view, the above situation can be analyzed as follows (without pretending to analyze the entirety of the phenomenon): when performing morning prayer, a person receives, through self-hypnosis, a feeling of confidence that he is protected by God's providence, that is, a feeling
self-confidence. He turns on the corresponding mental processes. There is another characteristic detail in this passage: having left the morning state, Nikolenka, the hero of the story, can no longer concentrate for prayer.
This "slumber" state has healing value: psychotherapists,

practitioners of autogenic training or other methods of self-hypnosis recommend that their patients learn to capture the intermediate "slumber" state and use it for self-hypnosis. With the help of self-regulation, you can easily learn this.
The "slumber" state is also known in hypnology, it is called somnolence and characterizes the first initial stage of hypnosis, when the patient experiences a slight drowsiness, numbness, unwillingness to respond to the environment, readiness to obey the voice and influences of the hypnotizer. There is no hypnosis here yet, but there is a readiness for a hypnotic state, when the patient's psyche and body begin to be completely controlled by external commands.
It goes without saying that if we master the neutral state, we will acquire an internal foothold from which we can independently switch our internal systems.
From the point of view of science, this neutral state looks like this. Imagine that in the normal state, the brain is continuously comparing competing signals: I see an object, I touch it, the visual image is confirmed, I hear a sound when I tap on it, and so on. These signals coming from various analyzers (vision, hearing) either confirm the perceived object or deny it. System analysis of interaction with an object certifies its presence, configuration and properties.
If one of the analyzers does not confirm the signals of the other, but contradicts it (for example, your finger passes through a glass, as if through a void), then other additional analyzer systems are switched on, rechecking each other's data.
The brain arranges an experiment. This is a model of the normal state of our brain.
In the neutral state, this analysis is absent. Everything around is the same. The human psyche is subject to readiness to perceive reality from a certain given point of view. From a psychological point of view. For example, a person in a state of hypnosis received a command from a hypnotizing person that everything around is painted pink. And in his body there is no opposition of signals. The principle of their competitive interaction is here replaced by the principle of their attitudinal subordination. All analyzers are switched to one direction - phase, tuned to one wave: the brain will choose from a variety of signals only those that confirm and implement the accepted installation - the whole world is pink. Other unrelated signals are blocked.
Imagine that at the moment of generalization of the mindset, from the entire diverse, endless inner world of a person, his microcosm, information is intensively synthesized on a mindset given topic — with the blocking of everything that interferes with this!
It is known that the human psyche and body are rich in the memory of generations and his personal experience, but, unfortunately, we do not know how to use it correctly. From time to time, dormant forces and possibilities (sometimes under stress) manifest themselves in a person, when an unconsciously arisen program of activity activates the entire functional experience of the organism that is related to the set.
Academician V.N. Chernigovsky said:
“Memory is a property of the whole organism.” The word "whole" should be understood as all the constituent elements of the body, starting with the cell. It turns out she has amazing properties remember everything that happened to her during her life. You pricked your finger - she remembers it, you burned yourself - she also remembers, you hit - and she remembers it. But, perhaps, the most remarkable thing is that she remembers the state of health in which she was once (in case at the moment her functions are impaired, but she herself is alive).
Moreover, she is ready and strives to realize her healthy state.
There is only one condition for this: the creation by man is conscious! - the phase in which the cell's desire for health can be realized.

Here it should be clarified what a phase, or a phase state, is. This is a directed state, when instead of many competing foci of excitation - dominants - a unidirectional mechanism for organizing mental activity is formed in the structure of the cerebral cortex. So, for example, a young man in love, no matter what he does, no matter what he tries to think about, all his thoughts are directed towards the object of adoration. Or, if you order yourself in a state of self-regulation to experience a sensation of warmth, then all the mechanisms of the brain are rearranged in a given direction, while in the normal mode of the brain there are competing signals.
Thus, the creation of the necessary phase, in which the necessary forces of the body are realized, is possible through a neutral state.
Faina G., who possessed self-regulation, was asked to induce a special state in herself and in it imagine herself as a bird soaring in the sky. For just one minute! She was sitting on a chair. Having entered the state, it “took off”: the hands went to the sides and up easily, majestically. The face became amazingly beautiful (in general, in the mode of self-regulation, nervous tension subsides and women's faces reveal amazing beauty!). Breathing became harmonious. This was evident from the single rhythm of the movement of the chest, body, and soaring arms. Suddenly, her body bent sharply, her arms shot up, one up, the other down, then her hands dropped, Faina breathed more calmly, opened her eyes. She sat “empty” for a few seconds, then came to her senses, smiled, said: “How wonderful! I've never had this before! At first I had to imagine wings, feathers, but now, when I entered the state, it was as if everything opened up at once: both the hills under me and the haystacks, such small ones. I didn’t have to invent anything, the picture itself lined up. ” She speaks, and holds her hands somehow strangely and motionless on her knees - the hands are turned out to the sides, at an angle, like a neck. "What is it?" We ask, pointing to our hands. "God! What is it?" She shuddered, turned pale, shook her hands, rubbed her hands. “Wow, I didn’t ask myself this in the installation, they themselves have developed this way.”
This is what a powerful holistically directed coordination of conscious and unconscious experience can be! Everything that Faina once heard, read, saw, even in a dream - everything was updated to solve the installation problem.
“Why did you suddenly have a fracture in flight?” - we ask. The feeling that the beak is growing!”
This example also shows that the time set in the installation determined both the plot of the flight and its duration, and thus the set time interfered with the organization of brain activity.
And if the question was discussed here, what is primary: spirit or matter, then. in this case, in the mode of self-regulation, it is a single dialectically inseparable entity. Union of soul and body. Harmony. Yoga.
A philosopher friend of mine said that in the future, in a more perfect society, the dualism (opposition) of the ideal and the material will be overcome. And in this sense, our method works for this future.
An indicative case is when, after a lesson on teaching self-regulation, one of the women studying, a doctor, ran up to us in a panic. “I’m afraid,” he says, “that I will involuntarily give a command to my heart to stop, and it will obey. Last night after class I tried to experiment at home. I imagined that I was Chaliapin. Suddenly, the shoulders turned around, resounded, the body straightened, and the voice - bass! I was trembling all night, suddenly I would give myself a dangerous command so that my heart would stop, and it would stop.
She was reassured by the explanation that the regime of self-regulation does not arise by itself, since it is connected with the volitional component. To get it, you need to apply an effort of will - this is the first thing. Secondly, all negative ideas that contradict the instinct of self-preservation of a person are unconsciously neutralized in the mode of self-regulation.

If in hypnosis it is possible to impose disgusting or painful sensations from outside (burns in a fire or some act that is borderline for a person), then with the help of self-regulation it is much more difficult to do this. For example, yogis, who have accumulated vast experience in mastering their psyche, believe that it is impossible to achieve any serious results in the field of supernormal psychic research without first developing a positive direction of the mind.
And now once again - a neutral state. Let's look at it from the point of view of psychophysiology.
Imagine the cerebral cortex. In the normal state in the cortex, there is a continuous competition of many foci of excitation - dominants. These excitations mutually neutralize each other's influence on the course of internal physiological processes of the organism. That is why in the normal state the possibility of creative decision-making is provided, since the thought process is not constrained by the physiological processes of the body. Not a single mental signal under these conditions becomes unconditionally decisive in the choice of decisions; it is subject to system analysis and criticism, and at the same time cannot affect the body. Mental processes are, as it were, autonomous from physiological ones, they occur freely and independently of them.
Thus, the competition of dominants is a condition for free decision-making and protection of the organism from mental influences. The usual conscious state is provided by the mode of parallel activity of competing dominants in the work of the brain.
Another thing is the neutral state. Here the cerebral cortex is relaxed. According to I.P. Pavlov - inhibited. And therefore, there are no obstacles to the focus of excitation, which under these conditions is able to spread its influence to all brain structures without limit. And the starting point in this situation is the psychological attitude formed during hypnosis by the hypnotist's team, and in the process of self-regulation - by the desire of the person himself. Under conditions of a relaxed cerebral cortex, any slightest volitional effort can induce a part of the brain, that is, cause generation, excite its activity to action, which is unimpeded.
applies to all other relevant zones. The influence of these zones depends on the content of the psychological attitude: they suggested that they want to sing like Chaliapin, the brain structures associated with singing are turned on, they suggested something else, other relevant areas are activated. This is the regime of sequential activity of dominants, or the regime of controlled phase state.
If in the normal state, due to the active tone of the cerebral cortex, the influence of mental stress on the activity of the integral psyche and body is, as it were, closed due to the controlling mechanism of brain work, then in the neutral state it is open: volitional desire is able to induce the excitation of cortical activity, which is generalized according to other areas provided for in the psychological installation. Here, the internal productivity of the body is increased: with
less volitional efforts can produce intense holistic reorganizations. IP Pavlov called this reaction a paradoxical phase, where weak conditioned signals (words) cause objective physiological changes in the body.
This phenomenon of "superconductivity" of the brain is known in hypnology and even in autogenic training. So, if a person in hypnosis is given a certain pose and his hands are folded accordingly, for example, as in a pose of despair, then after a few seconds a manifestation of mental anguish occurs - from external to internal, from form to content. The simplest example of expressing this superconductive state as a hypnotic phenomenon of the connection between the psyche and the body is observed in ideomotorics: give a person with an outstretched hand a ball on a string and ask him to think about a circle or a line. The ball will begin to repeat the contour of his thought.

In auto-training, this phenomenon of generalization manifests itself with the successful mastering of relaxation techniques and inducing a feeling of warmth. When evoking a sensation of warmth in one hand, for example, it begins to spread on its own, without effort, to the other hand, and then, if not interfered with, to the whole body. The author of auto-training, I. Schultz, considered this sign of generalization of the evoked sensation in the patient as a criterion for mastering the exercise, after which it was possible to move on to the next one. That is, the generalization of the evoked sensation testified to the achievement of a special
condition.
Guess here Schultz to recommend to the trainee to imagine that the hands not only relaxed (as is traditionally done in auto-training), but that the hands pop up and start typing, for example, on an imaginary typewriter, or the legs start dancing - everything would have happened. And our method of self-regulation would have arisen even earlier. But the history of life and the history of science are inseparable, and that Schultz patient remained either lying still or sitting in the traditional coachman's position, delving into his relaxation.

HOW THE METHOD DEVELOPED
Deserve to patronymic Fatherland.

Since, as we clarified at the beginning of the book, mastering a new method of controlled self-regulation requires the complete trust of the student, it seemed appropriate and even necessary to tell the interested reader the story of his discovery. For we trust only what we understand.
It was in the late seventies, when, after graduating from the Dagestan Medical Institute, I worked as a reflexologist in the city polyclinic of Makhachkala. At that time I was trying to synthesize the processes of acupuncture and hypnosis. Then a new phenomenon, previously unknown to science, was discovered: the reaction of acupuncture points could be turned on without direct physical irritation. Usually this is done with a needle, electric current, laser massage and other tools. Now it has become possible to influence the points with an exclusively targeted hypnotic suggestion. (About this phenomenon and the technique based on it, my first student, doctor S. M. Mikhailovskaya, published an article in her time in the scientific and medical journal “Bulletin of ENT Diseases”).
Special mention should be made of this reaction of the dots.
Usually, when acupuncture is performed, the criterion for hitting the needle to a point is a specific complex of characteristic sensations such as aches, bursting, numbness, heaviness, heat, electric current.
The main thing at the same time is that the sensations should not be of a point-local nature (under the very tip of the needle - it may just be pain), but giving, radiating, resembling the action of a current.
An inexperienced doctor usually does not question the patient in detail about the sensations evoked, focusing on a nervous reaction from which the patient will twitch and scream. Here would be to ask him about what the patient felt and where exactly did the current go? And how far? Or maybe it's just pain?
I once saw such a doctor, having accurately hit the spot (the patient was directly shocked), he himself shuddered in surprise along with the patient and began to calm him down, they say, it happens!
The sensation of current in acupuncture procedures should be very clear. All the other listed sensations (ache, bursting, etc.) are not yet complete.

reaction, but only approaching it, when the needle is already near the point, but has not yet touched the nervous structure.
So, for example, in the treatment of radiculitis of the lumbar spine, a point in the region of the gluteal Huan-tiao muscle is very often used. With an accurate hit with current, it hits along the entire course of the sciatic nerve, like a cord on the leg: from the injection site to
heels and even toes. That's when the wonderful effect of acupuncture happens.
In such cases, one wants to exclaim, supporting the brand of the company: “Tok is life! Our current is the strongest current in the world!”
In order to get such a sensation without pain for the patient, he should be warned before the injection that there should not be any pain. That at the slightest pain he should not endure, but tell the doctor about it. And then you can easily, like along a corridor, bypassing painful areas, penetrate to the desired depth.
If the patient is not psychologically adjusted, he does not rest during treatment, because he is tense. It is difficult to assess the quality of the response. Hence the low efficiency of treatment.
Once there was even an embarrassment. The office where I worked was crowded. In order to be able to accept many patients at once, the patients were divided into two groups - male and female. The female group consisted, as a rule, of old women. A whole office of grandmothers. If you cure sciatica, they will come tomorrow with a toothache. So all the time and
walk. Communicate.
Who is lying on the couch, who is sitting on chairs, and who, due to lack of space, is unclear on what.
For me, when I go into a rage, the concepts of age disappear. Someone needs to put needles, someone needs to make a short hypnosis. Someone sits under the device, treats the neck from myositis. A good device, by the way, is the CHENS-2 Electronics, a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator. Now it is sold in medical equipment stores, and then the first sample was presented to me by the author-inventor Vladimir Shakhov. For half a minute relieves acute pain.
“Baby,” I say to my grandmother. - Well, we'll repair you and make you brand new. Let's rejuvenate!" Grandmothers sit happy, like students at school. Befriended each other. Someone already goes to the executive committee on someone else's business, someone solves the pension problems of a new girlfriend. “I,” says one of them, “I’m going home last night, my neighbors, my peers, are sitting on a bench. And it's so easy for me! I want to fly right past them.
When our medical-fun meeting has already gained full speed, a new girl comes into the office. Young, with a heightened sense of self-worth. All of myself. She gave everyone a dismissive look and sat down, cross-legged. Waiting for attention. Not otherwise, someone's secretary. The grandmothers were silent. They sit quietly, their lips pursed, their heads barely noticeably shaking.
“There is no need,” she says, “to explain anything to me. I have already undergone acupuncture in a sanatorium.”
Usually, as I said, I warn patients about possible sensations. Well, if it's not necessary, then it's not necessary! I put a needle in the Qu-chi point for her. There is such a general strengthening point on the bend of the elbow. It is also used in the treatment of osteochondrosis of the cervical region. The current from it should go to the fingers.
And when she was “hit”, the omniscient patient, out of surprise, expressed herself in such street “folklore”!
And my old women, as they sat in silence, remained sitting, only shaking their heads ...
It was during the period when there was an urgent production need for group treatment of a larger number of patients in the absence of medical staff and premises that the idea of ​​actively combining psychotherapy with reflexotherapy began to develop as one of the acceptable forms of work in such conditions.
Hypnosis made it possible to cover the entire group at once, and the impact on the points was

highly effective remedy for the treatment of a number of diseases.
Once, in a book on yoga, I came across a recommendation - to inspire yourself with a feeling of warmth in the area below the knees to relieve a headache. Ba, yes, in the same zone there is a famous wonderful point Zu-san-li! This point is used (as it is written in almost all reference books on reflexology) in the treatment of almost a hundred diseases.
The restorative effect of this point is widely known. According to legend, the Chinese even cauterize it with a wormwood cigarette once every six months at a new moon as a preventive measure. And it is especially indicated in the treatment of headaches.
Isn't it recommended to call her reaction by self-hypnosis to relieve headaches? And if this is so, then it would be expedient to suggest to the patient in hypnosis the appearance of current sensations at this point.
And not only at this point! In any other, recommended in the treatment of a disease!
Thus, a method of hypnotic influence on reflexogenic points, where they were supposed to be used as an active intermediate link between the human cerebral cortex and the internal organs of his body, began to be created.
It is not known whether this particular direction was really contained in the yoga recommendation, or whether it was just advice to instill a feeling of warmth in the legs as a way of distracting from pain, which is also known in our folk medicine- foot baths, for example.
The main thing was that, working simultaneously in two areas, in reflexology and hypnosis, that is probably why I came to their qualitative synthesis, ahead of those doctors who widely synthesized both areas only quantitatively, mechanically combining hypnosis and acupuncture.
The publicist V. A. Agranovsky, having then become acquainted with a new method - signal reflexotherapy, described my studies and experiments in his story “A Visit to a Psychic” (where he also outlined my critical analysis of the psychotherapeutic mechanism of the “biofield”):
…” Aliyev told me the story of the discovery like this. Once, while conducting an ordinary session of therapeutic hypnosis in his clinic, he finally decided to test an idea that had long been “lost” in his head. To this end, after waiting for the patients to fall asleep, he handed each a felt-tip pen, and gave the general task, formulating it as follows: “You feel how energy resembling a weak current went up the body from your toes. This energy heals your disease. Draw with a felt-tip pen the path along which she goes! Draw!” - and froze in anticipation: it’s really interesting what the patients will do. And they, imagine, began to draw lines with felt-tip pens right over the body, and when Aliyev carefully examined them, he could not believe his eyes: the lines evenly went along the acupuncture points! Moreover, each patient had “affected” precisely those points that “correspond” to his illness! The one who, let's say, had a stomach ulcer, drew on the points subject to acupuncture precisely with a stomach ulcer, and the one who toiled with sciatica,
noted points that are usually irritated with needles in sciatica. And all this, mind you, was done in a dream, besides, by people who had no idea that there was an acupuncture atlas, and even before they had not been treated with needles ...
In other words, Aliyev could have seated ten, or a hundred, or a thousand people in front of him, lulled those who succumbed to hypnosis, then “put” a “current” through them, and on this he considered his mission completed, at least until the moment when it is necessary to wake up the people: people will diagnose themselves (moreover, unmistakably, since the “tip” is a diseased organ, it will not make a mistake) and they will treat themselves (moreover, with zeal that doctors never dreamed of).
"Listen to my command! - Hasai Aliyev would have exclaimed, standing in front of a microphone at some one hundred thousand stadium. - To the session ... tovs! So-o-ok ... yes! I can imagine how much fun officials in official offices, when Aliyev came to

him with this "number" ... "
In the given plot, self-regulation was present in the mechanisms of action. Naturally, here we are talking about the automatic reflex self-regulation of internal systems activated through the hypnotic reaction of the body.
Controlled self-regulation appeared a little later, when pilot-cosmonaut A. G. Nikolaev suggested that I think about what can be done so that to turn on the points it is not necessary to hypnotize astronauts at a distance through communication systems. That is, to teach the astronaut to independently turn on healing-strengthening points.
Upon my return from Star City, where I was invited for experiments with a group of test volunteers, which included such enthusiasts as G. M. Kolesnikov, A. N. Svirsky, S. A. Kiselev and others (whom I always remember with respect and gratitude), I suggested that in my clinic at the next session of current psychotherapy one of the patients independently reproduce from memory the current sensations he had just experienced.
When this patient tried to focus on reproducing the desired sensations, he unexpectedly (and me) again fell into hypnosis, in which the desired sensations were realized.
And then a conjecture arose that, if he had been taught self-hypnosis, he could tune in to receive not only current sensations in self-hypnosis, but also any other desired reaction of the body.
The decision was correct: to separate two stages - the stage of accepting the set task and the stage of its automatic reflex implementation by the body.
Thus, thanks to this division, the contradiction that hinders conscious-volitional self-regulation was removed. Namely, using self-hypnosis, a person becomes not just a "sleep robot", but remains free in the creative making of installation decisions. He uses these settings of his instead of the commands of the hypnotist.
It only remained to teach him controlled self-hypnosis.
At first it was like this. The patient was hypnotized by the usual classical methods, and in hypnosis he was told that now he himself can easily reproduce the test hypnotic state at the right time for himself, that, using it, he is able to realize his own goals, which must be imagined in the form of a figurative picture of the desired changes in the body immediately before the inclusion of the self-regulation mode.
To facilitate the inclusion of a self-induced hypnotic state, the patient was additionally suggested that self-hypnosis would occur automatically, as soon as he counted to five in his mind, looking at one point, and it would stop at the exact moment he set.
It was possible to formulate another conditioned-reflex key of self-hypnotization. For example, to suggest that the state of self-regulation will come automatically when it rises right hand and tilt your head back. There may be many options.
Agree that such a method of teaching conscious-volitional self-hypnotization for the patient is much more accessible than, for example, a yogic training system based on practicing certain motionless postures and special breathing methods with volitional concentration of attention. This kind of training is not for everyone.
On the other hand, having learned self-hypnotization right away, the patient could master at will more successfully any of the useful yoga postures or breathing exercises, not to mention the fact that the skill of self-hypnotization freed him from the need for a long-term gradual mastering of this state through autogenic training.
For thirty percent of the people (approximately) from the total number of applicants, two or three repeated procedures of such intensive training turned out to be quite enough for

sustainable consolidation of the basic skill of self-regulation. The rest needed more work. They could use the skill and develop it on their own for many years.
Here, of course, not everything is so simple, only the basic principle of training with the help of hypnosis is stated. A lot of technological subtleties and important elements of this process remain in the field of professional competence of a medical specialist.
In fact, learning through hypnosis is nothing new. So, for example, hypnosis has been used for a long time for the intensive development of skills in vocational training. The newspapers somehow flashed a message that a laboratory or institute had been set up in Paris where, in five or six hour sessions, millionaires could learn how to speed type on a typewriter, drive a car, and now even
a course for driving a light sports aircraft is being developed. Isn't it a miracle - slept for five hours in a pleasant healing state - fly as much as you want!
Thanks to hypnosis, the speed of learning increases dramatically, since all the attention of the student is riveted to the instructing influences, which easily spread to the brain mechanisms.
In the well-known method of intensive teaching of foreign languages ​​according to Lozanov, an element of suggestion (suggestion) is also used; it is based on the following structure: play, role, lack of fear for a mistake, name change (reduction of responsibility and, consequently, lack of reflection), work with large amounts of information (which creates faith in the possibility of perception) and so on.
The experiments of the Soviet psychotherapist V. Raikov, who uses hypnosis to stimulate the psychological conditions of creativity, are widely known, using the example of drawing. Patients are instilled with the image of a brilliant artist (Repin, Levitan), the suggested image, it turns out, mobilizes all the experience and impressions of a person in this direction, allows him to relax, draw better.
L. P. Grimak and L. S. Khachaturyants, who wrote many works on the reserve capabilities of the human psyche, worked for many years in the field of modeling human states in hypnosis and conducted successful studies on modeling the state of weightlessness for astronauts. Experiments have shown that if a person has previously experienced this state, then under suggestion it is reproduced, dosed, and developed. After such training on Earth, the astronaut quickly adapts to a real flight, which is of great practical importance. After all, modeling weightlessness under conditions of strong gravitational forces is very difficult: hydroweightlessness and short-term weightlessness in jet aircraft is an expensive and risky procedure.
But it is very risky to use methods of mental influence on a person, especially one who is hundreds of kilometers from the Earth, because hypnosis is associated with dependence on external control, with a decrease in the will and criticism of a person. That is why these experiments with hypnosis, in my opinion, should never go beyond the confines of laboratories. The evolution of man moves him towards liberation. He instinctively does not need a conductor who, in the act of the most intimate brain mechanisms of the creative process, directs his state and behavior from the outside. A person, in his essence, needs to be able to do it himself.
Therefore, we used hypnosis, but for the purpose of teaching self-regulation, with the help of which a person himself, at his own conscious discretion, produces volitional self-organization in the direction of the goal - to a champion glider pilot, to a professional typist or to Levitan. Do not get him a pocket hypnotist, after all!
The use of classical hypnosis for teaching self-regulation was, as we said, in the beginning. This approach reflects the essence of things and the nature of learning mechanisms and is ideal as a laboratory option. However, it is not available for wide development.
Here, autogenic training enthusiasts usually exclaim: “Here, we are finally caught,

innovators! The key is for the elite, for the hypnotic, and auto-training is for everyone!
It wasn't there! A survey of people who successfully learn auto-training showed that it is precisely the hypnotizable who effectively master this method. The rest only suffer from the fact that lucky people “sleep” around them, immersed in a healing state, and they, despite their desire and effort, cannot enter it in any way. Neither the tape-recorded singing of birds, nor the sound of running water, nor a doctor in a white coat, monotonously pacing around the room and talking about the high usefulness of the autogenic state - arms relaxed, legs relaxed, pleasant warmth and heaviness in the body, rest ... - do not help!
Moreover, in autogenic training, the initial suggestibility of patients is not controlled or evaluated in any way, and even more so, it is not purposefully regulated, as is done in our method. It just so happened that the supporters of auto-training, proving the strength of their method, forgot the basics of medical science: great importance has the individuality of the patient, his psychological and physiological characteristics, the type of nervous activity, finally!
And therefore, autogenic training gradually degenerates, remaining a sanatorium-applied, narrowly medical event, since its use is limited and alienated from the natural active life of a person. Imagine that a person is in a normal business rhythm, and at this time he is offered, for example, to lie down, relax and warm up his right leg. Whereas in the universal possibilities of applying self-regulation, amazing prospects for human development are hidden.
In order for the devotees of auto-training not to be offended by the author, who, like any developer of a new method, is trying to show significant differences between the old and the new, the advantages and prospects for development, the author, taking into account the origins and directions of human efforts in the development of the science of self-regulation, agrees to consider his steps in this area are just stages of improvement of already existing accumulated experience.
By the way, at this stage in the development of the method of self-regulation, when articles about it could not get into print, the luminaries of Russian psychotherapeutic science advised the author: remove the word “hypnosis” from your works, and they will go like a cannon!
But how to remove, if everything is so?
Before my eyes there is one already historical picture. The elderly professor, whose books I had read since childhood, got up heavily from his chair and took a magazine from a bookcase. "Suphrology," he translated the name of the journal to me with meaning. "And what is this suffrology?" I asked out of ignorance. “This is the same hypnosis. Everywhere they look for something to replace this word.
He is very verbose, this professor. Immediately told me how on one international conference a certain foreign colleague of his, also a professor, made a report that hypnosis as a phenomenon does not exist at all, and cited convincing scientific data. "That's it, young man!" he concluded his message triumphantly.
“Well, what do you think, is there hypnosis or not?” - I could not stand it, turning to the head of the department of psychotherapy of the Central Institute for the Improvement of Doctors, which was the professor. “Of course there is, but how. A whole branch of psychotherapy is called hypnotherapy. Based on it, we have developed emotional stress training, auto-training. We use the concept of relaxation. Relaxation is very necessary for a person. Where is the person? Man is everywhere! And in the sea - a man, and in space, and on a sports ground ... "
And then he gave me a lecture, as a first-year student, about the significance and usefulness of psychotherapy in general. Which I didn't ask for at all. I asked him to give feedback on my work.
After a demonstration of the technique, which was held at a clinical conference,

the professor concluded: “Our young colleague is highly erudite. His work is worth studying. Of course, this method can take place among others. More precisely, not a method, but a technique, a technique. But what a slick snapping of fingers! (I allowed myself to lightly snap my fingers while hypnotizing the patient to emphasize the reaction.) What kind of swagger?! Instead of snapping fingers, I would suggest that the doctor do something more pleasant for the patients. For example, take a tambourine or something else like that ... "
It was insulting not that the professor said it quite seriously. It was terrible that his assistants listened to him seriously, and two of them (forgive me, God, if it seemed to me!) even looked at me with condemnation. When it came to the phenomenon of reaction in points, the professor said: “And what do we see? We see the universality of hypnosis. When he (that is, I) said: "The current goes up," the current, comrades, went down! Where else would he go!”
Excuse me for adding. The last phrase, "he" did not say. I myself added this in order to somehow annoy the professor for having slandered the phenomenon itself as something taken for granted.
The method of controlled self-regulation was tested at the Serbsky All-Union Institute of General and Forensic Psychiatry before being approved by the USSR Ministry of Health for the purpose of concluding.
The matter was not easy. Without going into details, I can say that at the same time there were such wonderful people as L. M. Asanova and her colleagues from the children's department, where we, together with doctors, tried to cure children from enuresis (bedwetting).
Just as an experienced hunter calmly falls asleep on the eve of the hunt, knowing that he will wake up at four in the morning without an alarm clock, so the child, having entered a special state, tuned in to the fact that he would sleep peacefully, and at the right time his eyes would open themselves and he would wake up. This helped to reduce the dosage of medications, and the children slept soundly and deeply.
There were also such doctors of sciences who strongly advised “for the good of the cause” to call the method part of some other already widely known method, for example, auto-training, and at the same time proposed to sharply limit the scope of its practical application. Just in case. So, they say, it will be more modest, and then the method will be implemented faster!
As if only old methods can be introduced in our country! Or only those that have foreign analogues.
Is it not enough that yoga, Chinese gymnastics, auto-training and even bodybuilding came from abroad?
Let's develop our achievements! Recently the American Association for Soviet-American business relations"Silver Spike", whose representatives we taught self-regulation through an interpreter, called the method a super technology and set out to send their doctors to learn from the experience.
Their representative, a woman, having mastered the rule of entering a special state in literally ten minutes, played with self-regulation on the sidelines while we were negotiating. Suddenly something hit. It turns out that Madame realized the image of a cyclist in herself, and, as she said laughingly, her legs “went”. She would have gone even further, but she bumped into a table. This would not have happened if our first student from another continent had completed the entire course.

ON APPROACHES TO TECHNOLOGY

a simple ideomotor reaction, where the fingers involuntarily repeat the pattern of movement. This or another ideomotor reaction is known to have been widely used to determine the degree of suggestibility in hypnosis. If the reaction is pronounced, the patient is hypnotizable.
However, it was not previously known that if the patient was allowed to remain in the ideomotor exercise for some time, he would fall into hypnosis. Or if the patient is asked to keep his attention on some image, and he successfully does this, then again he can plunge into hypnosis. This phenomenon discovered by me formed the basis of the self-regulation training system being developed. The whole point was how to find for this particular patient that optimal key image corresponding to his mental state at the moment, which he easily captures and which, therefore,
is hypnotic for him.
This is a whole science in which the doctor's creative search and his qualities as an insightful and resourceful psychologist play a significant role. Even a brief summary of the foundations of this science would take up too much space. Therefore, we will not dwell on it. Let's just say that it must be transferred from specialist to specialist not only through the scientific theory of the method, but also necessarily in combination with know - how (the secret of technology) - that is, with joint activities. What, in fact, should the employees of the Self-Regulation Center mainly do.
So, let's say we have found that for a given person at the moment, a circle of blue color is easily fixed. Let the patient sit or stand as he pleases and keep it in his mind. Let us recall in passing: the Luscher color test, well-known in psychiatry and psychology, when the patient’s condition is determined from the selected color cards, convincingly proves with its effectiveness that different color perceptions are relevant in different mental states. In our case, color generation is image generation. If by our actions or words we help the patient to fix a given image, then we help him to sink into hypnosis; our actions and words, which serve as psychological reinforcement, are a suggestion for him.
The simplest way, which is accessible to a large number of people, and at the same time, the ideomotor realization of which is easily controlled by both the patient himself and the doctor, is in our training system the image of diverging or converging hands, previously stretched out in front of him.
Imagine that our subject stretched out his arms and, releasing them from tension, imagined that they were diverging. He may not close his eyes. Let him look and wonder how the hands go. Surprise causes additional emotional reinforcement - a slight psychological affect, the energy of which is necessary to turn on a holistic brain reaction of transition to a hypnotic state. When he entered this state, we begin to suggest to him that now, with repetition, he can induce a special state in himself, without outside help, by simply turning on the learned ideomotor reaction.
Now consider this experience from the other side. Recall the “biofeedback” that is already familiar to us. In this way, with the use of technical means, they sometimes teach autogenic training: they connect the sensors of an encephalograph, cardiograph or other device to the head or hands of the student and ask him to try to enter a pleasant state of peace of mind, in which the arrows of the device or the line on the TV screen from his sensors are aligned . This visual control of the confirmation of the correctness of the internal search helps a person quickly master the desired state.
In our case, the role of such an arrow or screen is played by the patient's own hands. Or another reaction or function of the body used in training: breathing, tilting the head, body, and others. It is much simpler, does not require complex devices and,

in addition, it is more emotionally significant: when the arms or legs move almost automatically, without the usual effort, according to the desired program, not only the necessary reinforcing emotional reactions occur in a person, but, what is especially important, ideas in the field of self-knowledge expand.
To teach self-regulation, it is desirable to prepare psychologically: for example, to see how other, already trained patients can do it, and to be inspired by their success in mastering the method. Groups of students, books, movies help here... You need to know that in a special state of self-regulation, no one is disconnected and there is no need to wait for the disconnection, otherwise, instead of a beneficial rest, intense mobilization occurs.

The anticipation of switching off may also be unconscious if the process of learning self-regulation is associated with impressions of hypnotization.
Variety hypnotists have left a heavy mark that should be got rid of. They have always used hypnosis, suppressing the personality, controlling its state and behavior for spectacular variety tricks.
When using hypnosis for the purpose of training, memory is purposefully activated in the direction of remembering everything that happens, otherwise training does not make any sense.
To evoke a primary special state in self-regulation training, the most different ways used in hypnosis. For example, the initial susceptibility to suggestions is first assessed using well-known techniques: they are asked to stand up straight, they put one hand on the forehead, the other under the back of the head, they warn that when the hands are removed, the body will pull back. If the trainee is tense, they reassure that no one falls down, adding that this is a useful exercise for learning self-regulation. If the student is tense with his eyes closed, they are asked to open them.
They try to cause the desired state with open and closed eyes, that is, they are looking for when it works out better.
The main thing is to provoke the intended reaction.
If she went, they immediately intensify the state caused by her with additional suggestions.
Before tilting the body back, you can apply the system of exercises developed by us. These exercises complement each other, creating a continuous, consistent action of engaging the trainee's attention.
Before the exercise, the trainee is offered to relax and be internally calm. It is better to start the exercises with elements that resemble a neurological or psychological examination. The trainee should not feel overly responsible for possible failures, he should behave as if it were an exciting children's game, when there is no fear of a mistake and all impressions are sincere.
This is the system of exercises that doctors from the Self-Regulation Center usually use when teaching a method or demonstrating it.
Exercise 1.
When performing this and other exercises, as well as the entire training cycle, the principle of indirect suggestion can be applied to the student. This is stronger than giving instructions, installations "on the forehead." To do this, what the doctor wants to say to the student, he says to those present, as if commenting on the processes. If the trainee is alone, the doctor speaks as if he, using his example, showed processes that are natural for all.
The doctor asks the trainee to stretch out his hands and hold them in front of him without any tension. However, they should not touch. The eyes can be opened at will. At the same time, they warn that for all people in this position, the hands tend to the sides due to the arrangement of the muscles of the back and shoulder. They are only held back by tension.
The trainee should not strain and interfere with his hands. Let them go sideways. The wider

the faster. Light as feathers.
The doctor suggests that it is not necessary to intentionally move the hands. And you don't have to force anything on yourself either. We just need to not interfere with them. They go by themselves. This is an automatic.
In this case, let the patient look at his hands and analyze the process. Such an offer releases him from tension and convinces him of the necessity of automatic action.
If the doctor was able to explain the technique to the patient in such a way that he perceived the need for divergence of hands as a natural reaction, he will help himself find that state of neutrality in which he does not interfere with his hands.
So, when teaching the state of relaxation in autogenic training, an electroencephalograph screen is used, the signals of which the student tries to regulate by calming his nervous system, that is, the visualization of the mental processes of the student on the screen of the electroencephalograph is a guideline for him to find the necessary autogenic immersion. Only in our case, I repeat, the role of such a screen is performed by the trainee's own hands.
In addition, in auto-training, the patient will learn only relaxation, but here - self-regulation as a universal state, with the help of which he can later implement a variety of programs.
So, the hands began to disperse!
In this case, naturally, the doctor's mood rises and the voice acquires confident intonations. He also has emotions. There is a reinforcing feedback effect.
The patient feels confident - his hands begin to disperse faster.
The doctor tries to cheer up the trainee, praises for the ability to focus well on the desired reaction, says that he will soon master self-regulation. Reinforces and enhances the reaction with suggestions: “Hands diverge beautifully!
Fabulous! Excellent!"
If there are those present, then the entire text can be addressed to them. This acts as a strong indirect suggestion. You can say: “Look how his hands diverge faster and faster, they have become lighter. Feeling better. With each exercise, the reaction deepens, ”and so on.
If during the first exercise the hands still didn’t go, then to move to the second one they are offered to spread consciously and use the principle of indirect suggestion, addressing the audience or simply commenting on the state being formed. This, as we have already said, has a stronger effect than when we address the patient directly, because direct address in some trainees causes watchdog reflexes.
The next exercise is performed in continuous connection with the previous one.
Exercise 2.
If the hands go - good! Some trainees already develop a deep neutral state during this ideomotor action. Even the eyes are starting to droop. If they remain open, they become immobile. You don't have to force your eyes to close unnecessarily. This can increase anxiety.
If the patient tries to shake off the growing stupor, it is suggested not to do so. They say: “Let the state deepen. The deeper the condition, the better for health and learning. The more pleasant."
The deepening of the desired state is carried out by the second installation. They verbally form an image that the hands begin to converge, to be attracted to each other. To enhance the image, a palm (with an edge) is brought into the center of the convergence of the hands, which, as it were, attracts the approaching hands of the student.
The process is accompanied by reinforcing suggestions: "Hands go faster." These suggestions are made, as if stating the process, and not imposing.
At the same time, they offer to look at the approaching hands. A look at automatically moving hands captivates the patient's attention, creates in him the necessary for

development of a special state of emotional effect.
Exercise 3
During the first two exercises, the student's attention is more and more fixed in the direction of the approaching hands, that is, a focus of attention is created. This point of attention must be used in order to develop the formative state. To do this, you can enhance the impression of the image.
The palm of the doctor is in the alleged center of convergence of hands. Then he says: “Hands, along with the body, reach for my palm!” And steps back, as if
drawing the attention of the trainee behind his hand, trying not to disturb him in any way.
If the doctor is at a distance from the student, then he inspires all this with words, but using his hand is easier - this enhances the effect of the image.
So, the hands and the entire body of the student were pulled forward. In addition, there is a powerful emotional reinforcement! Corps gone! (Well, how can the patient not fall into an even deeper state after this!)
When the body went forward, that is, it began to lean after the retreating palm of the doctor, the reaction is reinforced with reinforcing remarks: “Here, an excellent reaction, now you will master your body, you feel great, have excellent memory, attention and thinking, a wonderful night's sleep! Pulls forward, the legs themselves went! (Note that the therapist uses the entire psychotherapy procedure, especially that part of it in which the patient has a response of increasing suggestibility.)
At the same time, the patient's legs seem to tend to break away from the floor and, with a good reaction, take steps forward. When the state is not deep enough on the verge of movement, a way out of a special state may occur, since the movement has not been fully realized, and any emotionally unsupported reaction destroys the deep state that has not yet been formed. In this case, you can stop the exercise and move on to others, but you can also repeat it several times until the legs go and the desired state does not deepen through this action.
Exercise 4
When the trainee's body went forward, the doctor suggests that now his body will begin to tilt in the opposite direction - back. At the same time, the doctor can bring his palm closer to the patient, as if "pressing" on him through the distance - to enhance the image.
Naturally, his palm does not emit any mystical or magnetic radiations. Gesture is a powerful tool for influencing the deep psychology of a person.
As is known from the history of mankind, gesture appeared before words. It is the language of unconscious mechanisms (and the main tool for the psychotherapy of so-called psychics).
The body of the trainee begins to lean back. The doctor approaches the patient and insures him so that he does not fall.
Exercise 5
When the corps went back, the doctor should show his psychological and pedagogical art.
So, the trainee's body leans back. The following well-known principle is used: if we engage a person's attention on an emotionally significant task for him, fixing his attention on it increases.
The patient is told that the body is bent backwards, the spine, like a flexible string, is bent more and more, it is being pulled into the “bridge” position!
The entire body of the student begins to tense up. If, under the influence of additional suggestions, he bends more and more - this is success!
This means that the state is growing, since the risky operation for him did not cause either a protest or an exit from the regime. Therefore, purposeful, intensive training immediately begins: “Now you can yourself induce a deep special state for

self-regulation. Sitting, standing, lying down with noise and without noise, in any conditions, you can instantly turn on the desired state and use it for relaxation, setting up for work, improving well-being and much more. With each repeated exercise, this state intensifies and contributes to the improvement of the general
well-being. Before leaving it, freshness in the whole body and clarity in the head are sure to come!
Psychotherapy is carried out: every second in a state of self-regulation is worth its weight in gold, since in this state the brain cells have time to stock up on nutrients and the patient's well-being improves.
Here are a few other options for suggestion formulas. “In the mode of self-regulation, the state of the whole organism improves. Everything that was not in order before, comes back to normal. This is the law of nature. Whatever problem you solve, everything leads to better health!”
Or: “You must leave the self-regulation mode with a fresh head! Like after a cold shower! Or rather, first a sauna, and then a cold invigorating shower! There will be more cheerfulness in this contrast!”
Next, the doctor asks the trainee to get out of this state in a few seconds with a fresh head, stretch, do some physical exercises, as after a deep night's sleep.
These suggestions may encourage the patient to healthy lifestyle life!
Other exercises.
Other exercises are performed depending on the situation. For example, some exercise did not work out, then you need to apply another. It doesn't matter what exercise you get, it's important to find it. It is necessary to sort through several different installation programs and identify the one that is implemented better. In this case, of course, after each next installation, you need to give a few seconds for the expected implementation. The reaction time can be different - from 1 second to 5-8 seconds. Most often, those adjusting reactions that find previously formed stereotypes in the body are more actively implemented. In this way, stereotypes can be diagnosed, like an x-ray.
For example, the doctor says to the patient: “Stand up straight, try to be completely passive and, as if from the outside, observe which setting your body will respond to most actively and automatically. You do not need to inspire yourself with anything, just observe!
Then he begins to give instructions: “Your hands are no longer yours. These are the hands of a motorist driving a car along the highway. There is a sharp right turn ahead. Let's see what the hands are doing. Don't disturb them, just watch!" At the same time, he asks not to rush. Let's say the hands didn't go, because the person has never experienced the corresponding state, because he simply doesn't know how to drive a car. In this case, the image of a volleyball player who is about to serve the ball is offered. It is good if, at the same time, his arms and body have already been given a suitable position. Then the effect may be higher. Or a tennis player.
Or a swimmer crossing a turbulent river. Or a cyclist. Or a weightlifter, boxer, fencer, skydiver, and so on.
At some setting, legs or arms, shoulders or head, and maybe even breathing, suddenly begin to react. Hands, for example, float up, fingers twitch, as if typing on an imaginary typewriter. The effect can be very diverse. So there is a reaction!
As a rule, the reaction is caused by the habitual way of action in everyday life.
When the doctor stumbles upon a reaction, he begins to develop it - says encouraging words to the patient, convinces that the action is intensifying with every second.
Developing the reaction, the doctor contributes to the formation of the expected state. Then the trainee turns on a holistic reaction of the brain - there is an onset of a deep special state. In the end, using creative imagination, observation and perseverance, a specialist doctor, he is a psychologist, he is a philosopher, he is also a teacher and friend,

finds the first key of the state in which the development of the skill of self-regulation is carried out.
This principle differs significantly in its novelty from the well-known method of suggestion during hypnotization in that here, instead of repeatedly repeating or “driving in” any suggestion formula, the patient is offered a kaleidoscope of images to identify an inducing (generating) image that includes an active response, and thereby form the desired condition.
The same principle, by the way, should be used by a person already trained in self-regulation, when he needs to deepen the self-regulation regime - before the main task, it is necessary to implement already known (one, two) previously effectively implemented installation programs. As long as they are being implemented, the state deepens. And only then should you move on to the main task.
If the trainee succeeded in the first exercises during the training, it makes sense to let him experience the feeling of flying or other attitude associated with a sense of comfort, inner freedom.
For example, the feeling of flying. At the same time, the patient's hands pop up, natural deep breathing opens. Sometimes there is a state of euphoria.
And if the hands do not go? Well, let. It is not necessary to focus on this the attention of the student.
Look for another response. Maybe the patient has osteochondrosis of the cervical spine, which is manifested by fatigue and heaviness of the hands, and when the head is thrown back, the neck hurts. If so, you need to do exercises for the neck, treat osteochondrosis. To apply for this manual therapy, acupuncture, that is, the entire arsenal, which is owned by a specialist doctor who teaches self-regulation.
Here you have treatment, diagnosis and education at the same time. The possibilities of the self-regulation method are extensive!
If the first key had to be found to cause the primary state - in order to give experience to the student, then the second key is needed for him to independently turn on this state.
Both keys can be identical, that is, the stereotype of action (for example, divergence and convergence of hands), which caused the primary state, can also be used to turn on the self-regulation mode. It is enough to fix this sequence of actions.
You can change the private key. It can be in the form of a mental count of up to five, provided that the student's gaze is fixed on one point. Or in the form of a count to ten with three nods ... It doesn't matter. You can develop any ritual to turn on the self-regulation mode. The ritual should be developed in the primary state by suggestion. Then fix by independent repeated exercises.
In the end, you can change it yourself if you wish. To do this, the student calls the self-regulation mode with the mastered key, and gives the installation to replace the key, imagining in the self-regulation mode the desired mode of action and the reaction expected from himself.
In the same way, the possibilities of self-regulation are developing in other directions. For example, a trainee can easily call up a special state mode in a standing position (as was the case during training), but he cannot do this in a sitting position. In this case, in a state of self-regulation, he should figuratively imagine that the desired state is also well realized in a sitting position.
With the help of the self-regulation mode, a lot can be done.
For example, everything that could previously be learned quickly with the help of hypnosis can now be mastered just as quickly without it.
Learn to draw according to the method of V. Raikov? Learn to type on a typewriter? Please! But this will no longer be a laboratory experiment (incapable of going beyond the group of volunteers being tested), but a completely accessible element of the culture of any

person. Since there is no dependence on suggestions from outside, but there is freedom, creativity and will!
Now let's try to answer the question again: why does a person still need a special neutral state?
In a neutral state, a person’s personal reflection is turned off, paralyzing fear due to a possible mistake disappears. Think about why a person cannot walk on a log over an abyss, while on earth he does it without difficulty? Because too much responsibility distributes a person's attention between the goal and the way to achieve it - a step that is essentially an automatic action, and the automaton is blocked when it is interfered with. In order for the step to be easy, without tension, attention should be focused only on the goal.
Someone rightly remarked: if you think about how to speak correctly all the time, you will inevitably begin to stutter. Therefore, the logoneurotic is taught to think about what to talk about, and not about how to talk. Therefore, having a goal, it is necessary not to interfere with the inclusion of automatic executors of actions, otherwise the automaton is blocked, it becomes the object of the goal and, accordingly, analysis.
Thus, having set a goal for yourself, it is necessary, as it were, to step aside, not interfere with the automata, and then the body will give out those reactions that will ensure the solution of the task. And for this you need to learn how to evoke a neutral, abstract or, in other words, “empty”
condition.
In a neutral state, any idea immediately acquires the power of a program for the mechanisms of the brain, spreading to the entire organism.
But since in the neutral state it is difficult to create ideas and generally have desires, this program must be thought out before using the key to a special state.
The scheme is simple: consciousness gives an order, a neutral state turns off everything that interferes and turns on everything that contributes - from the conscious and unconscious experience of a person.
Consciousness is the customer, the natural and currently liberated nature of the organism is the performer.
Let's test it on an elementary example (already considered). Let's do this exercise on our own.
Let's stretch both hands in front of us, but so that they touch each other and at the same time are free from tension. Now let's try to imagine the idea (image) that the hands scatter to the sides. You don't need to give yourself anything. Hands will begin to scatter as soon as at least a partial neutral state appears - a condition for the materialization of the energy of imagination. To do this, wait a little, not hurrying, not worrying about whether it will work out or not, not paying attention to extraneous noises, not straining, that is, trying to be neutral, detached, distracted, passive.
As soon as the element of "emptiness" or detachment arises, the hands (at will) immediately begin to diverge.
Do you see how this differs from the known methods of self-hypnosis? No need to tensely "hammer" yourself or continuously repeat any formulas like spells.
Instead, just give the task, step aside, and the task will be completed.
There is such advice in yoga: if the work does not go, get distracted, the necessary answer is formed in the subconscious.
Everyone can remember the painful process of remembering the last name twirling on the tip of the tongue. What should be done? Stop remembering and get distracted, the right name will be remembered by itself.
When the hands began to disperse, let them go. If they went, imagine that now they
pulls up to the sky. Hands will be pulled up. Then imagine that you are a bird in flight. Hands will begin to imitate the smooth movement of the wings. The breath will open. All points of the body will breathe in the same rhythm. The breath will open from within. So natural, free, wonderful. It means the tension is gone.

In a state of harmony, the internal "pharmacy" of the body is turned on. Everything that was not in order is functionally impaired or depleted, tends to be restored.
A few minutes a day of such an easy therapeutic gymnastics, and in a month you will accumulate so much strength, as if you were in a sanatorium.
But we must firmly remember that when leaving the state of self-regulation, one should always be tuned in to refreshment, clearing the head, the emergence of a feeling of cheerfulness, as after a refreshing shower or a deep night's sleep. This will help to avoid unwanted residual effects. Especially in hypotensive patients (those suffering from low blood pressure), for whom, in general, being in a self-regulation mode should be accompanied only by comforting and tonic installation programs, while for hypertensive patients (people with high blood pressure), a relaxation program is useful.
If the hands did not go to the sides, then there is tension, that is, an attitude towards the expected action. This means that there is also a reflection that prevents automata from performing an ideomotor act. Try a different setting, such as that the hands are attracted to each other. If the movement succeeds, do not shake off the resulting feeling of numbness. This is a growing neutral state. It's what you need. With its deepening, the eyes may begin to stick together, do not interfere with them, let them close. If not, let them remain open. There is nothing artificial to do here. The growing state itself finds ways of reaction: the breath opens, pulls back, and so on.
Sometimes it happens like this: the hands went, then they stopped. What's the matter? It’s just that you didn’t decide in advance, didn’t outline the program, what should happen next, and so you ended up in a state of uncertainty. In neutral mode, it is impossible to decide what to do - the process of thinking takes place in the normal state of a person. So the hands stopped and you got out of self-regulation mode.
Now let's do the same exercise using our body instead of our arms. The main thing is to find a reaction that is easy to turn on.
Stand straight, feet shoulder-width apart, arms along the body hang freely. Tilt your head slightly back, without tension. Leave your eyes open if you like. And now for a few minutes imagine that the body is pulling forward, and try to be distracted into indifference, into emptiness.
Do not hurry.
Each, depending on the initial state, has its own reaction threshold - the depth, the time of entry: some in a second, some in three, an action occurs.
Or imagine that the body is pulling back. Then left, right. Next, imagine that you are a boxer, then you are on the river, then you are driving, and so on.
Try out a range of different setup programs. Do not rush, do not strain, but just stand and watch indifferently how the body reacts to this or that program. He will give a reaction to one of them - his arms or shoulders will twitch, he will pull his leg or head.
The main thing is to find the image that triggers the situation! And through it - to harmony.
A person always has a number of conscious or unconscious factors that interfere with learning to enter a neutral state. For example, when we teach a patient to be in a standing position, we always say that no one falls down. This immediately relieves his anxiety, which unconsciously interfered with learning.
Then we repeat that in the self-regulation mode, the brain never turns off, on the contrary, it becomes very focused, but not on extraneous noises or thoughts, but on the task at hand. It also relieves stress.
If the trainee entered the mode several times with the help of some kind of ritual, then later he can induce the state with one volitional wish and use the mode as a universal condition for the implementation of a variety of installation tasks.
Sometimes, especially in initially emaciated people (I mean neuro-physical

exhaustion), after the first training exercises, residual phenomena of drowsiness are observed, regardless of the fact that before leaving the state they “ordered” themselves an “invigorating shower”. It is the brain that has finally switched to the accumulation mode and continues to accumulate forces even after the formal exit from the state. This is the power of self-regulation - its orientation to the individual properties of the organism. In this case, you need to stay in a state of self-regulation for 10-15 minutes and "sleep" properly. At the second or third session, the residual sleepiness will stop. For hypotensive patients, a specially developed acupuncture technique is used before class, which prevents a decrease in blood pressure.
If you tried to perform the proposed exercise once, twice, and nothing came of it, do not be upset, repeat them again the next day. Maybe you will be successful.
However, we remind you that this book is not a tutorial on mastering the method of self-regulation, but only a means of preparing for training with a medical specialist. But just as some people reach the heights of knowledge through self-education, so among you there will definitely be especially receptive people who will be able to master this exercise on their own.

Secondly, using the method, we get a holistic, more complete realization of volitional adjustment - with the connection of all the internal potentialities of the psyche and the whole organism.
For example, I mentally imagine: if the phone rings, I will not pay attention to it. I have to read for two hours with as little fatigue as possible. Unexpected knocks on the door will not irritate me, I will quickly answer that I am busy, and immediately start reading again ...

If this skill is applied in the mode of self-regulation, then a psycho-physiological one will be added to the psychological setting, and quite intense.
This means that almost all body functions are organized in a given direction and an adequate vegetative support is formed for the psychological model, that is, there is a volitional attitude, and physiological processes corresponding to it are connected to it. This is a restructuring of the body, carried out very quickly, sometimes within seconds.
How will it show up?

This time, the hands went in different directions easily, and it seemed to Denis that the movement was stronger and faster, in any case, even the shoulder blades converged at its extreme point. He did not understand what was happening to him, but he was overwhelmed with delight from this light movement, which did not occur by muscular effort, but by one command of his will. Another movement of his hands back and forth, and he had the sensation of flying. His arms floated like wings, and there was nothing in his head but the thought of those arms flying without his efforts.

You yourself, you understand, yourself realized and yourself came to the conclusion that this must be done. And this is a completely different level of coercion. This is already freedom. You make your own decisions and you carry them out. But this is philosophy. And now we are talking about the “key” and how to help you. By the way, have you noticed what you're doing now?

And what am I doing?

Denis looked around, looked at his hands, not accepting what this strange bespectacled man was talking about, and found that he was swaying measuredly from side to side. He didn't even notice when she began to sway, it was like a natural state of the body.

You are swinging. This means that you have reached that state of ease in which you can realize your problem and find a new, non-trivial way to solve it. You just need to sit down and relax a little. And the solution will come by itself.

And you try. Of course, nothing happens right away, but on the third or fourth time you will succeed. Remember the sequence: a little warm-up, then you fly, then a warm-up again, you fly again, longer, then you stand, swaying, then you sit and rest.

How much do you need to fly?

Remember, your body and your brain themselves know how much to do, you must learn to hear and understand them, they themselves will tell you. While the exercise is a pleasure, it must be done, as soon as the body realizes that it is already enough, you yourself will want to stop.
