About movie:

Weird dream

I was born in Ukraine, in the city of Donetsk, in a family of unbelievers. Parents were miners. Childhood and youth passed unnoticed, like all Soviet children: school, vocational school, army. He served in the army for two years, returned home in 1973. In the same year, he entered an evening school for working youth to finish his studies in order to receive a secondary education (10 classes). In this school I met my future wife Natasha.
In 1974 we got married, and in the same year our son Alexander was born. I didn’t know anything about God, I heard that people go to church and pray, and that was where my knowledge ended. Believers considered fanatics. He believed that everything that is on earth happened by itself, and we humans are descended from monkeys. In general, he was an atheist, as our Communist Party taught.
In 1976 we went to Primorsky Krai. I was drawn to the taiga, and Natasha did not mind. Here our second son Andrei was born. I worked in logging, Natasha as a salesman in a grocery store. When Andrei was one year old, we went back to Ukraine. They worked in Ukraine again, the sons grew up. Andrei began to get sick often, and Natasha began to stay at home with him. Doctors have determined that he has asthma and this climate does not suit him, and it will be better if we go with him to where he was born for a while. In 1981, our daughter Victoria was born. We started getting ready to leave. Parents, of course, were against it.
I entered the forest technical school to have a forest specialty, graduated from it, and in 1989 we left for the Primorsky Territory. I went to work as a forester at a logging station, Natasha got a job as the head of the club. The country of the USSR began to fall apart, clubs began to close, and Natasha went to work as a fireman in a boiler room. The work was hard.
So I worked as a forester and very often went to the taiga, for several days I did not appear at home. At that time, Natasha met believers and began to read the Bible. I didn't know anything about this. But they informed me, I began to interfere, saying that all this is nonsense, there is no God and cannot be. Natasha proved that there is and that God loves us and wants us to be with Him. But I protested and always found counterarguments.
About two months before meeting with a bear, I had a dream about how I was fighting a bear, but I did not see the end and did not attach any importance to this. November 24, 1992, as always, I was going to the taiga. Natasha was also going to work and in every possible way tried to dissuade me from going to the taiga today, saying that trouble would happen to me, that I would meet a bear, not a tiger, but a bear, that it would be better for me to go tomorrow, but not today. I promised her that I would not go, but as soon as she left, I took a gun, a backpack with food and left.

Encounter with a bear

On that day, heavy snow fell, which caught me on the road 5-7 kilometers from home. A lot of snow piled up, I was tired of walking and thought of hiding somewhere: light a fire and rest. Dry ahead. thick tree and next to it is a thick spruce, under the branches of which I decided to hide from the snow. Before I had time to approach 2-3 meters, a huge bear flew out from under the spruce; I just had time to rip the gun from my shoulder and in the same instant I was under it. I did not have time to think, let alone do something, - like fangs dug into my face. She tore off the first piece and began to chew with a crunch. My hands were pressed by her carcass, I did not feel pain and tried to free at least one hand. When I freed right hand, she managed to tear off the second piece. I began to defend myself with my hand, inserting it into the bear's mouth, and I managed to free my other hand, with which I was looking for a gun in the snow. The she-bear threw my hand away and began to tear the jacket on her stomach: apparently, she wanted to tear out the insides.
I found the gun and my fingers touched the trigger, I pulled it, but there was no shot, I realized that it was on the safety. It took me a lot of strength to move this little lever, because the gun was clogged with snow. A shot rang out, the bear, frightened, left me. How far she ran, I did not know. I began to choke on my own blood as I was lying on my back and I struggled to my knees. I didn’t have the strength to get up on my feet: my legs didn’t obey me, as if I didn’t have them. I was pierced by fear that the she-bear was somewhere nearby and would again rush at me, and I started shooting at random, since I did not see anything. I shot until there was one cartridge left, which I left for myself: it’s better to shoot yourself than to be eaten alive - in my situation, probably everyone would have done that.
Somehow I got the strength to rise to my feet, which were trembling as if from a fever, and all around there was an eerie silence and the rustling of falling snow. A terrible pain pierced me, I felt my face with my hand, but there was nothing there, except for some kind of hole, and something hung, as if on a thread. I tried to tear it off, but it hurt. It was my right eye, and I left this venture. I spun on the spot, not knowing which way to go and which way I came. I walked a few meters, and my legs refused to go. I bumped into a tree and sank under it. I realized that this is the end, I will not rise again.
How long I sat there, I don't remember. It seemed to me that I was numb and my body was being taken away by forest animals. From these thoughts, I woke up, and around the same silence. I tried to get up, but I couldn't, and I held the gun even tighter. It seemed to be my only salvation. And then I remembered my wife Natasha, her words about God, that there is a God, and He loves all of us, and that I did not need to go to the taiga today, and I wept bitterly. Gathering the last of my strength, I knelt down and with tears prayed to God for help, so that He would help me get out of the taiga. Then I wanted only one thing - to say goodbye to my wife and children, whom I love very much, and to die. I realized that I was no longer a tenant in this world.

Additionally: Kurt Blatter wrote a whole book about how Eugene Severin lost and found his face. One chapter was created by the Russian forester himself. He agreed to publish it in the Eternal Call newspaper, if only it would help someone survive in his difficult trials and enable people to trust God and His word in a difficult situation ... The main thing is that everything be to the glory of the Lord.
