The series is worthy and worth watching, despite the fact that it does not fully correspond to the original. the cartoon comes with a seinen tag, it has a rather serious theme and concept. and catchy from the very first episodes. Let the plot not shine with originality, but high-quality drawing, dynamism, a few spectacular fights, and a great soundtrack do not leave anyone indifferent. In The Homeless God cartoon, the characters are well thought out: each character is endowed with his own character, without the typical templates of modern Japanese anime.
Plot Description
In addition to the familiar world, there is another, which is inhabited by ghosts, spirits and even gods. Usually every more or less decent god has his own temple and believers who bring gifts and praise him. But what if you are God, but there is no temple, no own parishioners? Fame and fame, of course, too. Who wants to follow such a dubious homeless creature that can't even take care of itself? And what to do? Give up the dream of getting into the pantheon of the supreme deities or come up with something for your own good? Small unknown god Yato chose the second way and took into account the realities of our time. Advertising is a great power: distributing flyers and helping to get orders. The fee is purely symbolic - only 5 yen, but the quality is on top. Yes, and it is easy to contact the executor of desires: just call the specified mobile phone number. Yato is not picky and takes on various errands from cleaning the room to protecting him from bullying classmates.
One day, a homeless god throws himself under the wheels to save a kitten. A young man is not hit by a car only by a miracle. The name of this miracle is Hieri. A high school student pushes him away at the very last moment, but she herself becomes a victim of an accident. And the consequences are more serious than ordinary injuries. Hiyori is now part ayakashi (spirit) and can develop into a full ghost. To get rid of her newfound gift, the girl asks, of course, for a fee, for Yato's help. The homeless god willingly agrees, but is in no hurry to fulfill the order: he has enough problems and enemies that Hiyori can help deal with. Yes, and the spiritual ghost of the boy, chosen out of kindness, constantly gets into trouble.

All major and minor are interesting and well thought out. First of all, the main characters are attracted, but the ghosts are no less spectacular.
Yato
The name of the protagonist of the series is translated as "stopping the night." His father's real name is Hiiro, also known as Yaboku.
Handsome blue-eyed young man. He is one of the lower gods of war, but the majority assigned him the "glory" of the deity of disasters and misfortunes, however, this does not prevent him from trying to become one of the best. Yato is a homeless god. He does not have his own sanctuary, so he is little known among people and unpopular among colleagues. The constant walking in a tracksuit and rather rude behavior does not add confidence to a strange deity. But the young man has grandiose plans for the future: to become the most revered and respected god and to acquire his own temple. For the sake of a dream, he is ready to work day and night. It turns out really bad. So bad that Mayu's own shinki has found another owner, and the collected donations (read: hard work pay) are placed in an empty sake bottle. But the young man does not lose heart and continues to draw graffiti with his phone number and an offer to help the suffering. Only the elite can see it - those who really need it.
After the departure of the shinki, who served faithfully for many years, things went very badly for Yato. Without a weapon, the young man's strength became much less, like that of an ordinary earthly magician. And who needs such a useless deity? Is that one 15-year-old high school student. And that's because there is no choice.
Hieri Iki
Life did not particularly spoil the 15-year-old high school student: constant bullying by classmates, misunderstanding of parents who forbid martial arts just because it does not befit a girl from a decent family. One day, classmates brought the girl to the point that she locked herself in the toilet stall all in tears. It was there that she saw a strange ad on the wall, promising help and getting rid of any problems.
Deciding that there was nothing to lose, the girl dialed the indicated number. Imagine Ika's astonishment when she saw the "benefactor" who proudly calls himself a great god. Maybe the girl would have refused his help, but life decreed otherwise, and now this dubious god is her only hope for salvation. Realizing that Yato's strength is not enough, Hiyori does not despair, but decides to help him. In addition, dexterity, strength and speed in her state of ikeryo only play into the hands of opposing numerous dangers. The girl is not embarrassed by the need to find a new shinki for Yato and earn money for the temple. What can you do to be human.
Yukine
The homeless god drew attention to the boy during the execution of the next task. The young thief does not remember anything about his past, but is sincerely embittered at the world around him. He envies living teenagers who can do things that are not available to him. However, Yato was able to see the potential in him and offered to become his shinki - a weapon in the fight against ghosts. Yukine does not want to miss the chance, but the past does not let go easily either. The boy continues to lie and steal, which hurts Yato, but he does not refuse him and offers to undergo a rite of purification.
Although Yukine passes the ceremony, she continues to get annoyed at serving an unknown petty god.
In battle, after pronouncing "sekki", it turns into a silver katana.
Around gathers himself gathers various, and these are not always friends. But the presence of opponents only confirms the well-known truth: it means that it is worthy of attention.
Bishamon
The homeless god Yato killed all the shinki of the powerful goddess in the past. For which he deserved her hatred and found a loyal and strong enemy.
Bishamon (sometimes translated as Bishamon) is the goddess of strength, wealth and prosperity, one of the most important in the pantheon. She looks like an 18 year old girl, but her real age is 3000 years. Very caring when it comes to her shank. Strong sense of justice. The goddess is friendly, unable to control her anger only when it comes to Yato. He considers him a real evil that needs to be destroyed.
Kazuma
The homeless god once fulfilled Kazuma's request, earning Bishamon's hatred. As a result of the death of the elders, Kazuma became the main shinki. He analyzes the situation and coordinates the actions of his mistress. Takes the form of a stud earring.
Kofuku
In the anime "Homeless God" the characters are very different, just like people in life. Some are ready to do anything for the sake of a thirst for revenge, others are able to delve into events and adequately perceive what is happening. The goddess of poverty is not afraid to go against public opinion and openly sympathizes with Yato. She is ready to do a lot for him, even to shelter Hiyori and Yukine. Due to his gift to scare away luck and destroy everything, fighting is considered a dangerous opponent. Even Bishamon is afraid to mess with her.
Daikoku
"Homeless God" is an anime where all the deities have their own shinki. The Daikoku is the only weapon of the Goddess Kofuku. Adores his mistress, Hiyori and Yukine even thought they were a married couple. Very suspicious. In combat transformation, it takes the form of a fan.
Nora
Shinki and Yato's sister. The homeless god and Nora have a common father, but different mothers. From time to time he tries to return his brother to his father's house.
She does not sit in one place for a long time, has many names, which is why her body is covered with a large number of tattoos. Considers Yukine and Hiyori a burden on Yato, only weakening him.

Anime "Homeless God" is a beautiful tale of good and evil, friendship and betrayal. There is no pronounced love line here, only hints and casually thrown "I need you." But the realism and wisdom of some moments conquers and you believe the characters.
Eh, another anime thrown with rotten tomatoes without the signature "IMHO".
Well, of course, there is nowhere to go: how many people - so many opinions, but personally I would not want the subjective perception of individual individuals to spoil the impression of those who did not watch.
In general, a lot depends on what you want from the anime. For when my friend gave me this anime with the words "Well, such a normal standard shonen", I had no idea that it would bring me to the extreme degree of despair, expressed in reading manga in Japanese.
Therefore, I will try to describe Noragami objectively.
So let's start with the shell.
Panache.
Perfectly good. God bless Bones: they managed to convey the original art, and not to roll it into the category of people-hawala ™.
Special thanks to the original drawing. Two artists worked on the manga at once, the result is obvious.
Animation.
I repeat, God save Bones. Stamped inserts of henshin and other magical bells and whistles are present, but they do not completely clog the time spent on action, so you can put up with it and endure it.
Music.
Eh... Gorgeous opening, non-irritating ending and some very impressive themes throughout the action. I will never forget the siren wailing when Yato met the ayakashi candidate for the position of shinki.
Seiyu.
I'm not a die-hard fan of Kamiya, but I can't help but praise him. For with such a memorable voice, it is difficult to avoid association with other characters, but nevertheless he succeeded. Same with Ono Daisuke (voiced by Daikoku). I had to climb into the wiki to dispel doubts about the latter.
seiyu Hiyori - a girl shows promise.
seiyuu Yukine is a mother god, is there really a seiyuu capable of crying SO plausibly? .. Yes, and expressing emotions in general, starting with embarrassment and ending with irritation. Prize for this friend!
seiyu Bishamon - I have heard this young lady more than once, but here her work is beyond praise. Again, that rare case when you believe voice actors. Stanislavsky would have praised her for her anger.
seiyu Kazuma - oh, a difficult case ... There are no complaints about the seiyuu, he did an excellent job; there are complaints about the caste, see the paragraph "stamps" below.
seiyu Kofuku - well, do not repeat to me for the hundredth time that the work of seiyuu is beyond praise, well?
Characters.
Golden theme. God without a fixed abode? A cute boy with the overtures of a noble gopnik? A quiet girl who can still crack an ayakashi with a roundhouse kick and isn't a total tsundere? Beautiful and gentle soul Bishamon, obsessed with revenge due to mental-trauma-well-where-without-her? Quiet yangire Kofuku along with noisy Yankee Daikoku? Unexpectedly non-hysterical Mayu, aka Tomone? And in general, adequate characters who are not stupid all the time?
Excuse me, can I repeat the order?
As already noted, the female characters here are really smart. If you're a die-hard fan of flat-chested tsunders, you're in the wrong anime. Fans of moe sluts with breasts of physically impossible size are also not here. Yangir, throwing the remains of the object of sighing on the walls with an ax, again, is not observed.
Another thing is if you value naturalness. Welcome. No, the girls here are not the focus of realism, of course, but they have a drop of naturalism and common sense (I can’t believe my luck). The figures of the heroines will not disappoint you either, and you will not have to listen to the snot "I have small breasts", which irritates a hundred times more than Oyashev's sobs "ore ga mamoru", by golly.
By the way, Oyashev's sobs "ore ga mamoru" are still not observed, we put a bold plus.
As for the male characters. Hold on, female audience, a squad from the new host club is moving towards you. Gouging with piercing blue eyes; stuck between cuteness and violence, a kawaii boy in the midst of a difficult period of life; Yankee-kun, vehemently protecting his mistress from the whole world (or the world from the mistress, the devil will sort them out); a little gray cardinal who does not forget debts; well, and filler samurai-seeking-death, if mademoiselle knows a lot.
Enemies.
Nooooo, I'm not going to describe Nora (whose voice actor again pleasantly surprised me) or the filler villain. I would rather mention the enemies of the second plan, i.e. ayakashi.
So, design. It seems that someone complained about him, but I honestly do not understand why. Firstly, the designers did not hack around in the spirit of "it's all the same extras, we'll draw something ugly and it will do." This is the case when even on the second plan they did a great job. Ayakashi turned out to be psychedelic and original, and their voices, glued together from the voices of different people, are truly a brilliant find. For ayakashi in Japanese folklore are spirits that feed on the negative emotions of people; and how well their psychedelic nature and voice, as if woven from the nasty thoughts of many people, fit into this idea!
Ayakashi clinging to a shinki is a really powerful move. Someone twitches with disgust, I twitch with admiration. We put a fat plus.
I was also pleased that ayakashi were not presented as universal evil - there were and will be negative emotions, but you need to start worrying only when these emotions get out of control. By virtue of this idea, the main heroes do not go through the streets, mowing down all the ayakashi left and right, but they can even neighbor with them - not be friends, but neighbors.
Separately, I note the cat from the fifth series. His kawaii goes beyond infinity :3
Plot.
He's still pretty good. I won't say he's wildly original and sparkling with ideas right and left, but he's good. It is good even despite the fact that it was brutally shredded and altered in an attempt to cram 3 volumes into 10 episodes (the remaining two are still filler, do not forget).
The story with Yukine looks quite logical here and there. In the manga, Yuki was originally a noble asshole, then he was brainwashed and he calmed down, in the anime, Yuki was at first quite meek, but flew off the coils due to imaginary loneliness (convince me that you didn’t feel lonely in your teens even in the circle of relatives and friends) and then was forcibly returned to the coils. Moreover, there are hints that in the manga the full story looked like this: during his lifetime, Yuki was a good boy, then his life went downhill, as a result of which he died with a disgusting character, then he was reborn into shinki with the same disgusting character and as a result of the rite cleansing was returned to the state of a good boy.
So, according to my personal impression, the plot in Noragami is still worked out, and even the shabby anime version still looks logical and convincing. Although I can’t help but note that the shredding of the anime was reflected in the relationship of the characters, because at first I honestly believed that the main heroine would be shipped with Yukine. After the last episodes of the anime, I had doubts, and in the manga I finally saw who the authors root for.
Concerning the ninth series separate applause. Everyone suffers so convincingly that the sadists died of happiness when watching.
And there are no yaoi hints here. Shippers will find, of course, but I did not find. Medal for authors.
Humor.
He is here. Not stupid shonen jokes, but really good jokes generated by excellent seiyu work or banter over stamps (my love for Noragami began with a skyscraper, whoever saw it will understand. Even the standardity of such a move as boke-tsukkomi did not keep me from hysterical laughter). Well, plus some crazy jokes from the mangaka (what a pity that the anime did not include a story with eyes on the back of a shinki watching melodramas on TV while he sleeps XD)
Well, now let's move on to the unpleasant part of this anime.
Stamps.
So, this anime boasts as many as four bright intersections with other anime:
- Kazuma. Urgently straighten the brains of those who conducted the cast. It wasn’t enough for Kazuma to have an external resemblance to Yukio from Ao no Exorcist, so they managed to choose the same seiyu! the personalities of the characters are still different, and the more I delve into the manga, the more they differ, but in the anime, the similarity is simply unbearable.
- People turn into weapons (hello Soul Eater). But in general, as far as I know, this idea was not only met in Soul Eater, and does not cause irritation.
- The technique by which Yato either sharpens or illuminates the blade by running his fingers along the blade has already been seen in D.Gray-man, hello Kanda.
- A blade without a normal handle, just wrapped in a rag, can evoke associations with Bleach, and in vain. For wrapping the handle of a bare blade with a rag is a natural necessity.
In general, I tend to think that stamps are not so bad if they are used in reasonable quantities (two eyes in people can also be considered a stamp, for that matter). In this case, we can talk about the moderate use of stamps.
Conclusion: universal sadness. First, there won't be a second season. Secondly, the difficulties with translating the manga prevent people from getting acquainted with a really good story, most of which was not told in the anime. Who is Nora related to Yato? Why does Kazuma feel like he owes Yato? Who was Yukine in life? What's going on with Hiyori? And what, finally, are the authors going to do with the love line (and it will be there, I assure you)? Answers to all these questions will have to be sought in the manga, which has not yet been translated into Russian. And the answers there are interesting, because my manga is flying in despite the passionate desire to give up reading dialogues. Connoisseurs of English can try their luck on English-language sources, and I will go on to train reading hiragana and memorize the meanings of hieroglyphs.
My rating is 10/10, don't blame the unfortunate fan.

Yato states that Yukine is very talented and would not want to lose him. After the ritual of purification (washing), he realized his mistakes and changed. Later, he sacrificed his life in a fight with Bishamon and became a sacred vessel, taking the form of two katanas. The name of the vessel is Sekki.

The variety of different gods in Japan gives rise to a real cult to some of them, and oblivion of others. Indeed, in our time, many things have become less important than, for example, education, security or health. Actually, therefore, it is not surprising when some temples in Japan are visited by thousands of people, while others gradually become covered with dust and sprout with weeds. But still, the anime "Homeless God" (Noragami) is a little bit about something else.
Anime plot
Imagine that you find yourself in the place of one such god, named Yato, you have neither a stake nor a yard, but you spend the night with richer gods in their temples. At the same time, you are dressed in an ordinary tracksuit, and the partner weapon with which you fight against various creatures of darkness has gone to another god. It immediately becomes clear that the situation is very unenviable.
But, nevertheless, Yato is not upset, and since there is no way to kill different creatures for the time being, then you can do something less significant. For example, finding a kitten on the streets of Tokyo... although I think it would be easier to kill the monster.
Since Yato is a god, it is difficult to notice his presence on the street. More precisely, you will see it, but after a couple of steps you won’t even remember it. Therefore, it was really surprising when high school student Hiyori Iki didn't look at him easily, but also mistook him for an ordinary person. Naturally, at this moment, the missing animal appears, Yato, in an attempt to catch the kitten, ran out into the street and a truck was supposed to run into him. The girl thought that an inevitable meeting under the wheels of a multi-ton car should await him. In an attempt to save him, she pushes Yato out from under the wheels.
And you should have asked her what the schoolgirl thought when she herself almost died. But, nevertheless, in connection with all these events, she acquires a unique ability for an ordinary person. She is now able to exit her body. Her spirit is now free to walk in the wild, while the body is lying limply somewhere in the park, to the delight of all those walking. Hiyori probably would not have even noticed the appearance of such an ability if Yato had not reappeared and explained everything. And it is necessary that the girl, out of inexperience, asked to heal him.
No, the point here is not at all that he is bad or unnecessarily mercenary. But if he does not even have a sacred weapon, then he will obviously lack the strength to heal the heroine. Therefore, Hiyori needs to help Yato become a good and strong god.
The first task is to find a new tool for exploits. It becomes the spirit of the boy Yukino, who so effectively turns into a samurai sword without Tsuka. But besides the sharp blade, the unknown god is also lucky with the sharp character of the newly minted subordinate. And now Yato has even more problems.
Viewing experience
Homeless God compares favorably with many other anime that feature various Japanese mythical creatures. And basically this difference is in the plot, the nature of the narrative and the accents. However, when watching, do not forget that we have a comedy to a greater extent than a drama or an action movie.
Usually, when the Japanese depict their gods, they turn out to be very wise and status. Therefore, it is rare when you can see them in an absurd position or speaking outright nonsense. But here is a completely different case. Yato initially appears before the viewer as a classic loser. Only in the future we understand that not everything is so simple. However, besides him, other Gods are shown, which, in turn, further enhances the impression.
True, there is a small minus in Yato's colleagues, or rather in their guns. The fact is that they are not fully disclosed in the plot. There are too many of them, every piece of clothing can be their servants. But in this case, it's more of a nitpick than a complete omission.
The plot itself began to be built not at all around the relationship between Yato and Hiyori, although, of course, there are hints. The creators took a more difficult path, namely, to show how difficult it is even for God to put on the true path the erring and rejected by the world. Undoubtedly, in the anime, Yukino embodies the image of not so much a ghost as a lonely teenager with big problems and a bad past. Yato then tries to embody the image of a parent, educator and friend. It is the one who is so lacking in adolescence for many. It seems that's why most of the viewers liked Yato so much.
As for the characters, surprisingly they turned out to be good and non-trivial. If I have already said a little about Yato and Yukino, then we should not forget also their eternal partner - Hiyori. It also turned out to be a very lively and active character. It is difficult to attribute it to one of the archetypes of commercial anime, and if you look at it in detail, you can find a little bit of everything in it. Active and quick-witted, she does not turn out to be the 5th wheel in the plot.
As for the Gods who appeared in the plot, it is still too early to form a full-fledged opinion about them. It's too early because most likely we will be waiting for the second season. The only question is how quickly the series will appear on the screens. And there is no doubt that he will. In the kit, the viewer gets a very good anime series, with a good plot, curious characters, pleasant art and a perky soundtrack.
