"Lil Wayne Syndrome": what is fraught with the use of codeine. Anatomy of a purple shingle Use with other medicinal products

Drug and alcohol abuse in teenagers is a major concern for parents. We had the War on Drugs, the Say No to Drugs campaign, and various educational programs. It works? For some, yes. Drug use is unacceptable for many.

Unfortunately, in other teenagers, experimentation with alcohol and drugs is quite common and is even considered normal. And it goes further than just drinking a bottle of beer at 13. A significant number of teenagers try drugs such as marijuana or LSD before they graduate from high school. Fortunately, only a few connect their lives with hard drugs, but these few are very important, at least for their parents.

The following list highlights 15 of the most bizarre and bizarre (and, in my opinion, stupid) ways teens in the US try to get high. There are no known drugs here. Denatured alcohol, coke, hashish, aromatic bath salts, LSD and the rest have no place on this list because they are too "normal". After reading this list, you won't look at your house the same way, because when you see what teenagers used to get high, your house will look like a denatured alcohol laboratory.

15. "Purge" (inhalant).

The abuse of inhalants or "irritants" is an old American, one might say antiquated, method of getting an inexpensive buzz. He has been known for a long time. Spray bottles can be found in most homes and are fairly easy to buy. But inhaling hydrocarbons creates a feeling of temporary paralysis and oxygen deficiency. It can also damage internal organs and cause death. Parents are advised to pay attention to oddities in the sense of smell of adolescents, dilated pupils and quickly ending aerosols.

14. Naphthalene balls.

Old-fashioned way to get high in any sense. Another substance in the "irritant" drug category is mothballs. The gas given off by mothballs is designed to keep hungry insects away from your clothes. But it turns out that it also attracts teenagers hoping to get high. After inhalation, teens become uncoordinated and their skin may become "scaly" as the body tries to flush out the chemicals they inhale. In any case, this is stupid because. can lead to severe poisoning of the body.

13. Purple Drank (codeine).

Made popular by rappers in the 1990s, Purple Drank, also known as "Texas Tea", "Sizzurp" or simply "Drank", is another substance that teenagers continue to use to get high. Purple Drank is a cough mixture mixed with Sprite or Mountain Dew and sometimes hard candies to add sweetness. This mixture is based on codeine, a drug found in cough mixture. Popularized in hip-hop culture and reportedly used by Justin Bieber, Purple Drank is mildly euphoric. It also causes lethargy and drowsiness and, if taken in a high enough dose, can slow down the nervous system and cause a person to stop breathing. High sugar content also leads to excessive weight gain and tooth decay.

12. Choking Game (games with asphyxia).

It stands out on the list because it is not a drug. Adolescents do this to achieve the same effect as when using stimuli. In short, asphyxiation games involve cutting off blood flow to the brain to the point where the person faints or begins to lose consciousness. Once blood flow to the brain is restored, the explosion of oxygen in the brain creates a feeling of euphoria. But as they say, you can overdo it.

11. Antiseptic hand gel.

It is supposed to be applied to your hands to kill germs. Some teenagers decided that they could drink it and get drunk. Some antiseptic gels contain over 60% ethanol. This means that a couple of drops are the equivalent of a couple shots of vodka. As with regular alcoholic beverages, this can lead to serious side effects, including decreased motor function, memory loss, damage to internal organs, and increased blood sugar.

10. Catnip.

If drug research hasn't shown you anything surprising about what teenagers are willing to eat, drink, or smoke to get high, meet catnip. Most people know catnip as the herb that makes your cat act like an idiot. Catnip was actually used by people in the 1960s as an alternative to marijuana. The fad is back as teenagers use the cat drug to get their own high and take their cats' high. Eaten or smoked, catnip can cause relaxation, mild euphoria, or dizziness. Side effects include nausea, headaches and people making fun of you. If you notice a teenager meowing around a skein of yarn, be sure it's catnip.

9. Whip-Its (nitrous oxide).

Known as Hippie Crack, nitrous oxide is a very well-known drug. In addition, it is used by dentists and speed enthusiasts. The most accessible source of the drug is the dairy section of the grocery store. In jars of whipped cream, nitrous oxide is used to extract the product from the jar. The inhalation of this substance (nitrogen, not whipped cream) causes euphoria. But it can also cause frostbite, organ damage, suffocation and death. The National Institute on Drug Abuse reported that more than 700,000 teens used inhalants such as nitrous oxide in a year. But the data is not limited to teenagers. Even Demi Moore has been hospitalized after reportedly taking nitrous oxide.

8. Freon.

Freon is a gas used in freezers and refrigerators. If you inhale it, you will get high. The teenagers found out that the usual home air conditioner also contains Freon. They reportedly use a screwdriver to inhale the gas. In recent years, technicians and repairers have reported an increase in complaints about the loss of freon in air conditioners. In addition to euphoria, freon can cause liver, heart, and brain damage, as well as death. It can also cause severe frostbite on the face and lungs.

7. Aromatic mixtures and "Incense".

It's not something your mom or wife uses to give a nice scent to a room. It may look like "regular" incense blends, but teenagers smoke it like synthetic marijuana. The product was legally sold at gas stations and convenience stores in the United States. Its main chemical was never intended for human consumption, and the danger is increased by the mass of other unknown chemicals often added to the mix. While teenagers seek euphoria, side effects include convulsions, hallucinations, and paranoia. Experts even point out that trying to get high with the mix can cost more than using marijuana, the drug the mix tries to emulate.

6. Burt's Bees (lip balm).

There is a new term for the drug that is being used today - beezin'. This refers to teenagers who have found a quirky way to use Burt's Bees products to get high. Burt's Bees produces a line of natural and organic products that include toothpastes, shampoos and conditioners. Teenagers have found that using the company's lip balm on their eyelids can produce a feeling of euphoria. Experts believe that this effect is caused by peppermint oil. Side effects are not yet known, but the boredom that caused the desire to try this should be alarming.

5. I-Dosing (audio drug).

This method does not require any substances, it uses music to get a "digital high". With headphones, a person listens to different sounds or beats in each ear. The result is that the listener feels a wonderful sound "inside the head". Some have reported feelings and sensations as if they were using marijuana or acid. Experts say music can disrupt the body's vital rhythms and sleep cycles.

4. Vodka Tampons and Vodka Eyeballing (vodka).

Teenagers love to use things for other purposes. Over the past few years, there has been a surge in bizarre drinking practices. It turns out that teenagers liked to soak tampons with vodka and insert them where the sun does not shine, or pour vodka directly into the eyes. The logic is simple - a thinner skin membrane and a high concentration of blood vessels in these "certain" places allow alcohol to be absorbed more quickly. This is true, but the problem is that alcohol enters directly into the bloodstream at a higher concentration than if it had been first processed by the liver. This can lead to alcohol poisoning or damage to the eyes and chocolate eye.

3. Nutmeg.

Yes, that's right, nutmeg. Nutmeg essential oil contains a small amount of myristicin, a psychotropic drug. Teenagers eat, drink and smoke this spice to get some form of high. Reported sensations range from a slight "hum" in the head to hallucinations. Side effects sound more serious. They include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, headaches and dizziness.

2. Snorting Smarties (candy).

It's just stupid. In American schools, there is a prank when they are asked to eat something or put something up their nose. It turns out that now it has become fashionable to inhale sweets. The only thing to say about this "trend" is that one of the side effects is the possibility of nasal maggots.

1 Jenkem.

Jenkem - human waste. Jenkem use reportedly began in Africa in the 1990s. But all these are Americans and we can learn from the media. The first information about Jenkem appeared at the beginning of this century, but soon the information was refuted, and everything was turned into a joke. Logically (if we can use that word in this article) inhaling naturally produced methane contributes to any "high". However, if teens are willing to inhale candy and smoke nutmeg, we're willing to bet there's a group of teens somewhere who have tried to consume shit. The whole thing is so funny that it deserves to be number 1 on this list.

Codeine- This is a "medical" drug, from which tablets and cough syrups are made. Drug dealers use the drug to create intoxicating drugs. For example, in the club environment, colored cocktails “drank”, “sizzrp”, “lin” have become widespread - they are prepared from soda, strong alcohol, tranquilizers and codeine-containing drugs. The latter are added in order to relieve tension and improve mood (Codeine has a psychoactive effect).

What is codeine

Codeine is the opiate 3-methylmorphine with the chemical formula C18H21NO3. Obtained by methylation of morphine. Narcotic substance (opium) in Codeine can be from 0.2 to 2%. This is enough to get an intoxicating effect and develop addiction.

The therapeutic effect of Codeine is that it is able to temporarily stop pain and stop coughing attacks. It can also help with disorders of the digestive system (for example, constipation). The substance is part of the following drugs:

  • cough and fever pills Kodelmikst, Torpenkod;
  • sedative Sedal-M;
  • cough tablets Codelac and Codesan;
  • analgesics Caffetin, Solpadein, Nurofen;
  • cough syrups Tussamg, Coffex, Neo-codion.

In Russia, Codeine is included in Schedule II narcotic drugs. This legal status means that all drugs containing the substance can only be distributed through legal pharmacy chains, dispensed by prescription and taken by patients strictly according to indications. Similar restrictions exist for all derivatives (desomorphine, oxymorphine, norcodeine). For the illegal manufacture and sale of drugs with Codeine comes criminal liability.

Narcotic effect

Codeine has a much weaker effect on the central nervous system than other opioids (hundreds of times less than heroin or methadone), but the substance still has a narcotic effect. This is due to the fact that Codeine excites the opiate receptors of the brain, they stimulate the antinociceptive system.

Under the influence of Codeine, a person feels warmth throughout the body. Blood pressure rises, pulse rate, respiration increase. It seems that the head is clearing up, I want to move more. The mood improves, the problems seem insignificant.

The higher the dosage of the remedy, the more pronounced the intoxication will be. A safe therapeutic dose is 80 mg of codeine. Euphoria and increased activity are observed with the use of 120–300 mg of the substance. More than 350 mg can have the opposite effect: instead of cheerfulness, a person falls into oblivion, hallucinations begin.

How to make a drug out of syrup

Criminals don't need pure Codeine to make the drug. Any pharmacy drug like Nurofen or Codelac is enough for them. Medicines are mixed with different types of alcohol, energy drinks, tranquilizers. In the club scene in America and Europe, the following codeine-containing drugs are common:

  • Perpl or Erp - narcotic syrup, tonic and mineral water. Food coloring is added for color.
  • Drank or Lean cocktail - soda with cough syrup, where marijuana or promethazine is added.
  • "Dirty Sprite" - lemon soda, codeine-containing drugs and tranquilizers.

Both medicines with Codeine and codeine-containing drugs cause addiction and tolerance of the body (to get the effect, you need to constantly increase the dose). This threatens with overdose and pathologies caused by excessive use of potent substances. That is why all products with Codeine should be drunk only as prescribed by a doctor, follow the instructions. If this is not done, then addiction will develop.

How to recognize a codeine addict

A codeine addict loses an objective assessment of his condition, does not consider himself addicted. Only relatives and friends can help him if they notice signs of drug addiction in time and convince him to seek treatment at a specialized clinic. It is possible to determine the dependence of a patient taking medicines with Codeine for pain or cough by symptoms:

  • After taking the funds, the patient's mood improves, but after 1-2 hours the patient becomes too irritable and sad.
  • According to the patient, without a pill or syrup, the state of health will be too bad, therefore, in no case should Codeine be canceled.
  • The patient constantly requires an increase in the dosage of the drug.
  • Without taking Codeine, a person develops withdrawal symptoms: insomnia, headache, nausea, vomiting, weakness, etc.

Experienced codeine addicts always show signs of social degradation. A person becomes indifferent to his relatives, he loses interest in his former hobbies, work, study.

Due to prolonged drug abuse, there is a deterioration in the functioning of the brain - memory lapses may appear, concentration decreases. Due to drugs, metabolism is disturbed, appetite disappears, a person becomes too thin.

Addiction treatment

With a single use of codeine-containing drugs, drug addiction does not develop. Habituation occurs after about 10-14 days of daily use of the drug. If we are talking about treatment with Codeine (in compliance with the dosage), then they get rid of drug dependence at home. To do this, in the last week of the course, the dose is gradually reduced, reducing the intake to nothing.

When the codeine drug is not used for medicinal purposes, but to get high, then it will not be possible to get rid of the addiction on your own. You need to go to a drug treatment clinic.

In the hospital, detoxification will first be carried out - cleansing the body of the remnants of Codeine. The next step is withdrawal therapy. The patient is injected with polyionic solutions, given vitamins, hepatoprotectors, nootropics, drugs for seizures, etc. Sessions with a psychotherapist will definitely be needed - the doctor helps to understand the problem, motivates a person for a healthy life without drugs.

The duration of treatment for codeine addiction is determined by the experience of drug addiction and the dosage of the drugs taken. On average, drug therapy is carried out from 2 to 6 weeks. Sessions with a psychotherapist are recommended to attend for 2-4 months.

Effects

When using Codeine on the recommendation of doctors and observing the dosage and duration of the course, there will be no health problems. If codeine-containing drugs are taken unnecessarily and in high concentrations, then in addition to withdrawal, side effects may occur due to the destructive effect on the body:

  • From the digestive system: abdominal pain, anorexia, gastralgia, intestinal obstruction.
  • Pathologies of the cardiovascular system: reduced tone of smooth muscles, chronic hypotension.
  • From the nervous system: depression, exacerbation of schizophrenia.
  • From the senses: ringing in the ears, blurred vision.

It is important to note that addiction to Codeine threatens with uncontrolled intake of a large amount of the drug and subsequent overdose. It is manifested by nausea, vomiting, a sharp decrease in blood pressure, depression of the respiratory center, cardiac arrest. If, in case of acute poisoning, you do not provide quick help (do not introduce antidotes, do not give artificial respiration or heart massage), then the person will die.

It is better not to risk your life - for this you should not try to improve your mood with the help of drugs and take Codeine only if they are prescribed by a doctor.

Just as every subculture has its preferred music genres, appearance, and behavior, so do they have their favorite psychoactive substances. The punks of the 80s leaned on alcohol and heroin, the rave lovers opted for ecstasy pills, and the hippies preferred LSD and marijuana.

With rappers it's more difficult. Here, odes to cocaine and weed sit side by side with anthems in honor of Hennessy and Xanax, so popular among young MCs in recent years.

But there is something that stands out among all these substances and has won the status of a cult drink, especially among the "southerners". You guessed it right, we are talking about a drink made from codeine syrup. It will be discussed in our article.

Story.

The drink with codeine and promethazine (lean, purple drank, sizzurp, dirty sprite) has almost half a century of history. The forerunner of purple swill was a cocktail of robotussin and beer. It was used by blues musicians, and the roots of this habit originate in the sixties of the 20th century from sunny Houston, in the south of the USA in the state of Texas. In the 80s, the formula of the magic potion was changed - robotussin was replaced by a syrup with codeine and promethazine, prescribed as a cough medicine.

Until the 1990s, drank remained something of a local Houston custom, until the appearance of a man under the pseudonym DJ Screw on the southern hip-hop scene. It is he who is considered the discoverer of such a phenomenon as chopped and screwed. Skrew claimed that it was codeine syrup that inspired him to "slow down" the records - it was just as slow and "braking" in its effect.

DJ Screw spawned a monster that then bit off his head - he died in 2000 at the age of 29 from a lethal cocktail of lin and alcohol. This will not be the last death caused by codeine. But first things first.

The banner of "preachers" of codeine madness was picked up by the super-popular group Three 6 Mafia in those years. With their track "Sippin' On Some Syrup" together with the group UGK, they actually introduced the expression "purple drank", making it sustainable. It had the effect of a bombshell: as of 2004, more than 8 percent of Texas high school students at least once in their lives (and more often regularly) did not use the purple mixture to get rid of a cough.

Codeine and promethazine have become the new symbols of the Hustler Dirty South, like gold grills or expensive Cadillacs. Drinking syrup became fashionable, it was a kind of marker of well-being and financial success. In the clips of rappers, characteristic plastic glasses began to flicker more and more often.

The codeine addiction epidemic swept the hip-hop scene with renewed vigor in 2011, when the little-known but very promising MC A$AP Rocky released the now-legendary single "Purple Swag". It is not difficult to guess what was read in this track, and in combination with the deliberately sleepy and lazy flow of Rocky and the atmospheric beat "Purple Swag" made a hypnotic impression at all, and quickly became an anthem for those who like to slow down.

And it began.

Juicy J, Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, Meek Mill, Young Thug, Future, Danny Brown - the list is endless. All of these famous MCs have codeine references and metaphors that are over the top, and some (like Juicy J and Gucci Mane) have even titled their releases after purple liquor (Blue Dreams & Lean and World War 3 Vol. 1 : Lean respectively). What is the secret of such a frenzied popularity of Drank?

Anatomy and physiology.

The technology for making lin is simple, like everything ingenious. The main ingredient, of course, is a cough syrup with codeine and promethazine. This drug is sold strictly by prescription, but this is by no means a problem - in Mexico, which borders on Texas, you can buy syrup absolutely freely.

Codeine is the “key” for which millions of people, in fact, poison their bodies. It belongs to the opiate group of drugs. A distinctive feature of this class of substances is "deceleration". One gets the feeling that many hours have passed, while in reality not even a few minutes have passed. There is also euphoria, relaxation, anxiety disappears. The person becomes lethargic and serene.

Often the emergence of the so-called. "codeine dreams" - bright, extremely realistic images that arise in the mind of a person who is under the influence of syrup.

We will return to codeine, but for now - about the technology of preparation.

The above mixture is mixed with tonic or mineral water. Especially popular as a “breeder” was Sprite soda - it’s not for nothing that the expression “dirty sprite” has become winged. For sweetness and taste, sweets are optionally added - these can be Haribo jelly bears loved by many or the well-known Chupa-Chups ball - whatever you like.

So where is the catch here?

Codeine, as already mentioned, is an opiate. That is, a substance belonging to the same class as the infamous heroin. Everyone knows how dangerous and destructive heroin addiction can be. Addiction to codeine, as well as withdrawal after stopping its use, is not as painful as in the case of heroin, but it is extremely exhausting - depressing withdrawal symptoms can last for weeks, and not everyone has enough willpower to endure this painful torture.

In addition, codeine, like any drug of the opiate group, is a depressant, i.e. has the property of inhibiting many body systems, primarily respiratory and cardiovascular. Respiratory or cardiac arrest is the most common cause of death in overdoses of opiates, including codeine.

Ling also hits the liver and kidneys well, which is quite logical to assume - the organ systems that process the poison that is toxic to them take enormous damage.

Terrible headaches, chills, sweating, severe diarrhea, insomnia, debilitating depression - this is not a complete list of what awaits the poor fellow who decided to "jump off". But, nevertheless, it can be done. If you can.

Necropolis.

Many didn't make it.

The first victim of the "dirty sprite" was already mentioned above DJ Screw. In fairness, it must be said that even without Skru syrup, he could hardly have lived a long life - he was addicted to alcohol, smoked a lot of cigarettes, and his diet was mainly junk, fatty foods. However, it was lin that became the last purple drop that overflowed the life cup of the pioneer chopped and screwed.

UGK, along with Three 6 Mafia, the flagships of the Dirty South, suffered losses in the form of Pimp C. The rapper died of respiratory arrest caused by codeine syrup in 2007. He was 33 years old.

A$AP Yams, a member and mastermind of the New York group A$AP Mob, a friend and mentor of the now super-popular A$AP Rocky, died even earlier - at just 26 years old. In the body of the rapper, at an autopsy, traces of several drugs were found at once, including opiates. The rapper's last tweet was "BODEINE BRAZY", the meaning of which after the death of Yams takes on a special ominous sound. Impressed by the death of a close friend, A$AP Rocky himself abandoned the purple drink.

Fredo Santana, a prominent Chicago MC, has walked the purple razor's edge more than once. According to his own words, several times the syrup brought him to convulsions, seizures and bleeding. The rapper changed his mind and went to the clinic for rehabilitation, but, alas, it was too late - his liver and kidneys were too seriously damaged, incompatible with life. Fredo passed away at the age of 27. He left a son.

There is every reason to believe that codeine contributed to the death of Lord Infamous and Koopsta Knicca - representatives of the same Three 6 Mafia that thundered all over the world in the 2000s. Both died of cardiac arrest, which, as we remember, very often occurs with the direct participation of codeine or is a distant consequence of its use.

Lil Wayne was on the verge of death many times. Arguably the most avid drink drinker of the moment, Wizzy has gone through a coma several times, and the intensive care unit has become his second home. Wayne shared his experiences with the use of liquor more than once in his tracks, the most famous of which was "I Feel Like Dying". One can only hope that Lil Tunchi will have the prudence to stop the decay of his body and not add to the sad list of those who have gone to the other world "thanks" to Ling.

Conclusion.

The purpose of this text was not propaganda (hello, Roskomnadzor!) or “whitewashing” of codeine syrup. We wanted to show that there is a price for everything in this world, and the price for using hard drugs like opiates is especially concentrated. “Find what you love and let it kill you” - this quote from the American writer C. Bukowski is one hundred percent related to drank. Many great people used drugs. But, firstly, not all great people did this, and, secondly, drugs can easily turn the life of even a great person into hell, if not cut it off completely. We suggest everyone keep this in mind if you want to take something “for inspiration”. Take care of yourself.

If the patient has painful, prolonged bouts of dry cough, while the sputum cannot come off on its own and the mucus spreads deep into the lungs, the doctor may prescribe cough syrups or cough tablets with codeine.

Codeine is obtained through the methylation of morphine. This substance is considered a semi-synthetic derivative of opium, it has analgesic properties and is often added to many analgesic drugs.

Also, this alkaloid is included in some codeine-containing drugs and cough preparations.

This is due to the fact that codeine has a unique ability to inhibit the activity of the cough center, which is located in the medulla oblongata.

What are codeine-containing drugs and their features

The main purpose of such medicines is to relieve patients from pain and severe cough. Also, codeine-containing drugs are used for headache, menstrual, toothache and other pain. However, it is believed that codeine for coughs can be addictive if consumed without moderation.

As pharmacists note, in general, this is a rather weak analgesic drug that has a narcotic effect. Similar to the action of morphine, tablets or syrup have an analgesic effect, but the effect is not strong. However, these drugs suppress cough quite effectively.

Codeine is used as an independent component or in combination with other drugs in the form of syrups, tablets, ampoules. If necessary, this drug is taken every six hours.

How do codeine medicines work?

Compared to other narcotic painkillers, codeine acts on the body in a humane and gentle way with respect to the digestive system and does not disturb the digestive process. After codeine enters the body, it affects the cough center of the brain, the respiratory centers, thereby stopping the reflexes and urge to cough.

After the drugs are processed in the liver, the formed metabolites act as painkillers. Thus, the effect of pain relief can be observed 20-30 minutes after the patient has been injected. The best effect occurs an hour after the injection.

If the patient took pills or syrup, the drugs will begin their effect after 45 minutes, and the greatest activity of the drug will come in one and a half to two hours. The therapeutic and analgesic effect lasts for four to six hours.

Since codeine itself is a very weak drug, it is most often added to other analgesics. So, codeine is included in the preparations Arbidol, Nurofen Plus, Sedalgin, Codelac, Pentalgin, Sedalgin, as well as some syrups.

Injections, tablets and syrups with codeine are prescribed in the following cases:

  • With prolonged dry cough - bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, emphysema;
  • Mild pain syndrome, in particular, with headaches, diarrhea, neuralgia in combination with other analgesic drugs;
  • Cough syrups and tablets with codeine should not be used in the treatment of children under two years of age. This is due to the fact that codeine-containing drugs can cause all sorts of side effects in all body systems and internal organs.

Why is codeine dangerous?

Despite the fact that such cough medicines are considered effective, recently doctors have been cautious in prescribing such drugs and only if the disease is severe or other medicines do not help the patient.

What is the danger from the use of medicines with codeine? As mentioned above, codeine is an opium alkaloid, for this reason, such drugs can cause serious poisoning and drug addiction. Patients in this case experience the following symptoms:

Dizziness, nausea, sometimes vomiting, in case of an overdose, a person may feel insomnia or nervous overexcitation.

  1. Frequent constipation and an allergic reaction to the active substance.
  2. If the drug is used very often and in large quantities, the patient enters a state of euphoria in the form of a narcotic state of bliss.
  3. With prolonged use, psychological and physical dependence develops.

After the patient regularly takes pills or an inexpensive and effective cough syrup with codeine, his pain disappears and his condition improves. However, after a while the pain returns, which is why the patient starts taking the drug again. Feeling that the medicine does not help properly, the dosage of the drug is gradually increased. As a result, the need for the drug is increasing.

In the case of uncontrolled use of drugs with codeine for coughing, the patient may begin to break down, as with drug addiction. This condition manifests itself in the form of severe pain inside the muscles, depression, suicidal tendencies. According to some doctors, this phenomenon has a more complex effect on the body than drugs with the addition of heroin.

Even if codeine-containing drugs are taken under the supervision of a doctor and the dosage is strictly observed, cough medicine can cause drowsiness, social apathy, and disruption of the digestive system.

It would seem that a harmless cough syrup with a codeine component has been used in the United States for several years as one of the components of a narcotic drink. Young people add sprite, promethazine and other components to the liquid syrup. In addition to respiratory depression, such a deadly drink is dangerous because it contains promethazine, which affects the central nervous system.

At a lower dosage, this drink causes swelling and dilation of blood vessels.

Additionally, the danger lies in the fact that codeine and promethazine are not recommended to be used together. Also, promethazine should not be taken simultaneously with alcohol.

Use with other medicinal products

Before you start taking medication, you should consult with your doctor. At the same time, it is important to inform him about the presence of any allergic reactions to codeine and other components. It is desirable to obtain a complete list of ingredients that are part of the drug.

You also need to tell what medications, vitamin preparations and supplements the patient is using. The doctor should be especially informed if the patient has been taking antidepressants, psychiatric medications, sleeping pills, tranquilizers or cough tablets for a long time. Based on the data obtained, it will be more convenient for the doctor to control the treatment and adjust the dosage.

If the patient has experienced asthma attacks or has been diagnosed with intestinal obstruction, codeine should be abandoned. In particular, it is necessary to take into account if the patient has previously abused alcohol. It is not recommended to use medications if bladder or abdominal surgery has been performed.

Be sure to tell the doctor if the patient has previously had:

  • mental illness;
  • head trauma;
  • Increased brain pressure;
  • convulsions;
  • lung diseases;
  • Diseases of the intestines, liver, thyroid gland, kidneys, pancreas;
  • Hypotension.

When planning, pregnancy and breastfeeding, the use of the drug should be completely abandoned. If the medication is continued while breastfeeding, the baby may experience withdrawal symptoms such as irritability, hyperactivity, vomiting, weight loss, and insomnia.

When visiting a surgeon or dentist, it is important to remember to inform the doctor that codeine is being taken. Codeine also often causes constipation. If the patient has any problems or disturbances in the functioning of the body, you need to contact your doctor, review your diet or start using another drug in treatment.

What is the danger of codeine-containing drugs will clearly demonstrate the video in this article.

About that game about Screw which is in the best answer
Drunk may have played a major role in killing Skrew, but the Houston innovator also had a hard-working schedule, ate only fatty fried foods, and smoked as much as Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov a day. Judging by the intensity of the crank libations, Screw, who became the face of the syrupy lifestyle, laid rails to the lower worlds long ago and only an ibogaine clinic could have kept him from falling. On the other hand, he proved by his example the relative safety of taking shingles in moderation.

This American drink is really purple in color. It has recreational drug properties and is popular in the hip hop community in the southern United States; called in slang "drank", "sizzrp", "lin", "purp" or simply "urp". It was invented in Houston, Texas. Its main ingredients are codeine and promethazine, which are part of the cough syrup. Cough syrup is usually mixed with ingredients such as Sprite or Mountain Dew soft drink or any tonic, mineral water and Chupa Chups diluted. The purple tint to this chatterbox is given by the cough syrup dye.
The purple drank is believed to have caused the deaths of several well-known users. Respiratory depression is a potentially serious or fatal side effect of drugs containing codeine, but the main danger lies in the much more potent CNS depressant phenothiazine-related promethazine. The deadly consequences of an overdose, especially when mixed with alcohol, are: respiratory depression or cardiac arrest. In lower doses, this harmful drink leads to swelling and dilation of blood vessels.

DJ Screw, who popularized the drink, died of a codeine-promethazine alcohol overdose on November 16, 2000.
Several legal commercial products based on purple shingles are sold in the United States. In June 2008, the Innovative Beverage Group of Houston, Texas released a drink called "Drank". The commercial product does not contain codeine or promethazine, but the company claims that the relaxing effect ("Slow Your Roll") is due to a combination of herbal ingredients such as valerian root with rose hips and the hormone melatonin. Anti-energy drinks on the market are called "Purple Stuff", "Sippin Syrup", and "Lean".
Some distributors of "Dranka" suggest that it is an alternative to illegal purple shingles.

They will not sell promethazine with codeine to you, it is only prescribed by prescription, as it is addictive. Well, actually, yes, in addition to syrup, sprite + sweets can be added.
It’s easier to buy ready-made drinks, look on the Internet, they also sell them in Russia, you can also from abroad.
You should not abuse it, the roof will go.

First, the tray should be in a secluded corner. Secondly, the animal must have free access to the tray. The first weeks you need to constantly monitor the behavior of the kitten. As a rule, if the baby wants to recover, he begins to worry, sniff out a suitable place, may meow or scrape the floors with his claws. In this case, you simply take it and take it to the tray, stroking it and holding it there until the “things” are done.
At first, it is necessary to refer to the tray as often as possible - always after eating and after sleeping. When the kitten has recovered, consolidate this achievement: pet him, praise him, let him know that he did everything right. Most kittens are potty trained within 2 weeks.

I once read that in Houston, Texas, a cough syrup based on promethazine and codeine has become extremely popular among the black population of the city. Inhibited by this mixture, DJs wanted to play tracks slowly and even more slowly - this is how a whole direction of screwed-n-chopped mixes was born, which later became a hallmark of modern southern sound. Under the influence of syrup with some guys, the consciousness began to play strange things ... ==============
As a medical examination found out, the cause of death of rapper Pimp C was an overdose of drugs. These are the infamous codeine-containing drugs.
An autopsy revealed excess promethazine and codeine in Pimp C at the time of death.
Should I take this syrup?

After Lil Wayne's last bout, here's a quick recap of the impact codeine has had on hip-hop culture and why using it systematically can be the biggest mistake of your life.

It became known that Lil Wayne's personal plane was forced to land because the artist suddenly had a seizure. When the plane took off for the second time, the rapper became ill again, after which he was taken to the hospital.

Fortunately for Wayne, once again everything ended well. However, the cause of such health problems is very simple - the use of codeine-containing drugs. Syrup, lin, purple drink - call it what you want - the effect of this drink that appeared in the south on hip-hop did not have the most positive effect.

Yes, over the years he has become a part of the culture, and how many odes from the southern and not only rappers were dedicated to him - it is unlikely that he will be able to count from memory. However, it was the “dirty sprite” that over the past 15 years has caused the death of many famous and already iconic artists, not to mention ordinary people. DJ Screw, Big Moe, Pimp C, A$AP Yams have all been killed in one way or another by codeine/promethazine cravings. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Even more rappers sat tight at one time, and some subsequently managed to cope with this habit - Danny Brown, A $ AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, Chief Keef, even Justin Bieber foolishly used it at one time when he went into all heavy.

Lil Wayne has always stood out from the rest of the rappers, and it's not just about his songs or his "Martian" origin. During the years of his creative dawn, in 2007-2009, he did not let go of his foam glass from his hands, it seems, never. In the studio, on the street, in the clips - full of purple liquid, he was Wayne's most important companion.

The situation gradually worsened, especially if you look at some interviews of the time, when the rapper's speech became more and more incoherent, sluggish and ridiculous. Wayne's appearance alone on the Tim Westwood show is worth it, when, holding a familiar glass, he gave out one of the worst freestyles in the history of hip-hop, although he once knew how to cope well with it.

In 2012, his plane was already being landed due to a sudden attack, he was already in the hospital on the verge of right during the filming of the video for the song "High School" with Nicki Minaj.

It was not my first, not my second, not even my seventh attack… I had a lot of them, you just didn't hear about them. My heart rate dropped to 30 beats per minute, but I had people with me who knew how to act in such a situation. This time it was really bad, because I had three seizures in a row, and the last one was very hard.

At the same time, a few years ago, Wizzy seemed to change his mind and decided to end his addiction. He talked a lot about taking lean not because he liked it, but because he was sick.

Wayne told everyone to stay away from codeine, but he couldn't seem to stop himself. And the last attack is proof of that. The love of plastic glasses not only affects his health, but also greatly harms creativity. Sober and "dead" Waynes are more different than Kanye's College Dropout days and today's Mr. West.

If a vivid example of potentially one of the coolest rappers in history at the time of the danger of codeine cannot convince anyone, then here are the answers to several basic questions related to the medical side of the issue. They are written from the words of Dr. Wolfgang Studel, who has been a professional anesthesiologist for more than 20 years.

What is codeine

Codeine is a soft drug (has a mild opiate effect) that suppresses coughing and expels phlegm. But in strong doses, it can constrict breathing, slow the pulse, and lower blood pressure. The person may even fall into a coma. An overdose of the drug can lead to cardiovascular failure and a heart attack, and as a result, death.

What happens if you mix it with promethazine

If promethazine is added to codeine, the effect may be aggravated. It itself affects the central nervous system. An overdose leads to a rapid heartbeat or, conversely, unexpectedly slows down the pulse. In extreme cases, you can faint and die. One of the side effects can be seizures, when the limbs of the body suddenly begin to twitch chaotically.

And if at this moment there is codeine in the blood, then there is a high probability of difficulty and respiratory arrest, which in such cases is fraught.

Why "lean" is highly addictive

It's all about codeine - the more you take, the more your body requires (as with other drugs). However, in this case, there always comes a time when promethazine becomes poisonous. But, unfortunately, people do not know where that line is.

Promethazine is dangerous because when the body reaches this point, the substance either enhances the sedative effect of codeine or makes the person overly aroused. And this is already fraught with seizures. At the same time, you need to drink a huge amount of codeine in isolation for a person to have convulsions. The whole point here is precisely in promethazine - without it, codeine is actually not able to cause an overdose, similar to the side effects of hard drugs.

Another thing is that no one takes promethazine by itself, because the body does not achieve the desired effect. And so it turns out that almost all highly dependent on codeine people come to this dangerous combination of codeine + promethazine.

How much Drenka do you have to drink to induce a seizure?

There is no exact dose, since each organism is individual, and dependence on codeine can increase this threshold. In this case, the likelihood of a seizure will increase significantly.

If a person has already had seizures, then the vulnerability of the body only increases. And in this case, doctors recommend, in principle, to be careful with any substances that dull the brain - be it codeine, promethazine, and even alcohol. A few glasses of wine are unlikely to make things worse, but a bottle of codeine cough syrup next time could cost Lil Wayne (and any other drug-destroyed person) their lives.
